To assess for alterations in the microscopic anatomy that occur as a result of Müller muscle-conjunctival resection (MMCR) ptosis procedure and to better understand mechanisms by which MMCR elevates eyelid.Sixteen orbits from 8 fresh frozen Caucasian cadaver heads, ranging 38 100 years age were used. For each head, was performed on one side. The contralateral, unoperated orbit served an anatomic control. Each exenterated orbital contents excised specimen evaluated. histopathology eyelids...
Delayed treatment after ischemia is often unsatisfactory. We hypothesized that injection of bone marrow stem cell (BMSC) conditioned medium could rescue ischemic retina, and in this study we characterized the functional histological outcomes mechanisms neuroprotection.Retinal was produced adult Wistar rats by increasing intraocular pressure for 55 minutes. Conditioned (CM) from rat BMSCs or unconditioned (uCM) injected into vitreous 24 hours end ischemia. Recovery assessed 7 days using...
In Brief A retrospective case series of 2 patients with orbital complications after tube shunt placement for glaucoma is reported. The first patient presented limited motility and conjunctival injection in the setting intraocular gas leakage superior orbit previous vitreoretinal surgery. second multiple signs cellulitis. Both improved intravenous antibiotics. Although rare, may occur Orbital complications, including limitation infection, although glaucoma.
Eyelid involvement in sarcoidosis is very rare. A search of the medical literature indicates one previous report with destructive eyelid lesions. We describe case a 50-year-old woman severe systemic sarcoidosis, which included her eyelids. To our knowledge, presented herein represents first to show full-thickness histopathology lesions sarcoidosis.
A 19 year-old African American man presented to our clinic for a second opinion about right upper eyelid mass which had been recalcitrant treatment nonspecific orbital inflammation by an outside facility. Examination systemic causes of the patients lesion led diagnosis acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) FAB subtype M1. subsequent biopsy tumor confirmed myeloid sarcoma. The patient succumbed complications from his within 13 months presentation. This case report is first, knowledge, sarcoma as...
Historically associated with glassblowers, true exfoliation of the crystalline lens involves a splitting or delamination capsule. We reviewed phacoemulsification records single surgeon for patients The incidence in our series was 2.2% (6 278 cases). average age 85.0 years. All had successful outcomes, which may have been due to accurate recognition condition and appropriate surgical planning. Our findings support notion that be more often advanced rather than infrared radiation.
Controversy persists in surgical eyelid anatomy despite the routine use of microanatomical examination modern research. The aim our study was to facilitate visualisation upper by optimising orientation cadaveric specimens. We studied everted eyelids, providing an excellent histological view posterior approach commonly used surgery. Non-traumatic separation lamellae provides a new eyelid9s lamellar nature. Further application this model may enhance understanding multilayered aspect levator...
We explored spontaneous self-concept among 227 Chinese undergraduates at a university in Hong Kong. Participants' responses to the Twenty Statements Test (TST) were compared with those of North American college students from 1950s 2000s. The results showed that only 13.7% described themselves terms social roles, status, or group membership. In contrast, 84.6% perceived personality traits, behaviors, and emotion. Our findings suggest Kong are no less individualistic than their counterparts....
