Exposure to airborne particulates is estimated as the largest cause of premature human mortality worldwide and particular concern in sub-Saharan Africa where emissions are high data lacking. Particulate matter (PM) contains several toxic organic species including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) nitrated PAHs (NPAHs). This study provides first characterization source identification for PM10- PM2.5-bound NPAHs during a three-month period that spanned dry wet seasons at three locations...

Abstract A toxic endocrine disruptor, 4-n-nonylphenol, was degraded using a well-known TiO2 and visible-light-driven BiVO4 photocatalyst under irradiation from solar simulator. The degradation rates for both are comparable in air-saturated solution though surface area of is much smaller than that TiO2. This fact indicates has great ability to degrade alkylphenols wastewater light.

The determination of bisphenol A (BPA) and/or diglycidyl ether (BADGE) in foods sold Japanese markets and water leached from six epoxy resin cans with similar diameters was carried out using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) electrochemical detection (LC/ECD), LC-mass spectrometric (LC/MS) LC-tandem mass (LC/MS/MS). BPA concentrations were 0-842 ng g(-1) for 48 canned foods, 0-14 23 plastic containers, 0-1 16 paper containers. No BADGE detected three foods. There no difference...

The emission, concentration levels, and transboundary transport of particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Northeast Asia were investigated using PAH measurements, the newly developed emission inventory (Regional Emission ASia for Persistent Organic Pollutants version, REAS-POP), chemical model Air Quality Model ver2 POPs RAQM2-POP). simulated concentrations nine PAHs agreed well with measured concentrations, results firmly established efficacy REAS/RAQM2-POP. It was found...

Estrogenic/antiestrogenic activities of 14 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 63 monohydroxylated PAHs (OHPAHs) having 2 to 6 rings were evaluated by yeast two-hybrid assay expressing human estrogen receptor α. Relative effective potencies estrogenic antiestrogenic calculated as the inverse values relative concentration test compound that gave same E2 4-hydroxytamoxifen, respectively. did not show any estrogenic/antiestrogenic activity, but several OHPAHs 3 5 showed activities....

Abstract Astronauts experience osteoporosis‐like loss of bone mass because microgravity conditions during space flight. To prevent loss, they need a riskless and antiresorptive drug. Melatonin is reported to suppress osteoclast function. However, no studies have examined the effects melatonin on metabolism under conditions. We used goldfish scales as model coexisting osteoclasts osteoblasts demonstrated that mRNA expression level acetylserotonin O‐methyltransferase , an enzyme essential for...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitro-PAHs (NPAHs) in PM2.5 samples were collected at a roadside monitoring station Kanazawa, Japan, every season from 2017 to 2018. Nine PAHs five NPAHs determined using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection chemiluminescence detection, respectively. The mean concentrations of highest winter lowest summer. Fluoranthene pyrene the dominant 1-nitropyrene was NPAH all seasons, these compounds mainly emitted by diesel...
