This study seeks to assess quality of life (QOL) and utility scores head neck cancer survivors. We compared QOL as indicated by EORTC QLQ-C30, QLQ-H&N35, time trade off (TTO) with previous published reference values tested series characteristics related global utility.A total 127 patients were recruited. Of the patients, 102 (80%) completed assessment. Cancer survivors had lower norm values. Patients without a spouse than those spouse. low annual family income also (p < 0.05). Other factors...
Two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-based testing approaches have shown promise for early detection of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Neither has been independently validated nor their performance compared. We compared diagnostic in an independent population.
Objectives/Hypothesis Emerging literature has documented the effectiveness of intralesional steroid injection as an alternative treatment for benign vocal fold disorders. However, clinical application is frequently limited by associated technical demands adequate anesthesia and precise needle placement. This study investigated applicability more practical less technically demanding method transnasal endoscopic (TESI). Study Design Prospective case series. Methods recruited 30 patients with...
Abstract Background The prevalence of esophageal neoplasia in head and neck (H&N) cancer patients is not low; however, routine surveillance included staging newly-diagnosed H&N cancers. We aimed to investigate the risk factors for synchronous impact endoscopy on management patients. Methods A total 129 newly diagnosed who underwent with white-light imaging, narrow-band imaging (NBI) magnifying (ME), chromoendoscopy 1.5% Lugol’s solution, before definite treatment were enrolled...
Background Head and neck cancer (HNC) is associated with a high rate of developing second primary malignancies(SPMs). But the impact on survival remains poorly understood before. Therefore, we want to estimate SPMs HNC survivors. Methods Findings Between 1986 2008, total 9,996 were recorded for 93,891 patients an initial diagnosis by Taiwan Cancer Registry. Patients followed national death registry database 2011.Using Kaplan–Meier method, time-dependent covariate was employed compare rates...
Introduction Patients with head and neck cancer may develop a second primary neoplasm (SPN) of the esophagus due to field cancerization. This study investigated impacts esophageal screening using magnifying endoscopy narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) on outcomes hypopharyngeal patients. Methods diagnosed from 2008 2021 in tertiary hospital were reviewed retrospectively. Screening surveillance ME-NBI examination divided into three patterns: (1) never performed or more than 6 months after diagnosis...
This study intends to objectively quantify and compare the regression rates of vocal lesions in patients receiving either fold steroid injection (VFSI) or hygiene education (VHE). Potential influence occupational demands on treatment outcome was also investigated.Retrospective case series. This enrolled 176 nodules polyps. Ninety-two received VFSI, while 84 VHE. We measured lesion area with correction by length fold, according videolaryngoscopic examinations before 1 2 months after...
Objectives/Hypothesis Office‐based procedures have been proposed for the treatment of vocal polyps, including indirect laryngoscopic surgery and angiolytic laser photocoagulation. Our previous report documented good outcomes by combining two aforementioned procedures. This study was intended to further compare office transnasal fold polypectomy (VFP) with those microlaryngoscopic (MLS). Study Design A matched cohort study. Methods retrospectively enrolled 50 age‐, gender‐, size‐matched...
The Sydney lymphadenopathy cytology system was proposed in 2020, but its validation for neck ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration remains to be explored. Patients with who underwent ultrasound and were included. final diagnosis relies on histology consensus of the multidisciplinary team. Cytology results follow (L1-L5); L3-L5 categories indicate malignancy, we further calculate sensitivity, specificity, overall accuracy. From July 2020 April 2023, a total 208 patients included, which 68...
Background/Objectives: To assess the pretreatment and posttreatment clinical factors associated with rate of survival at 1, 3, 5 years in stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients. Methods: Clinicopathological characteristics 61 Stage NPC patients diagnosed between 2008 2022 a single tertiary medical center were retrospectively reviewed. Univariate multivariate analyses performed to evaluate prognostic overall (OS), disease-specific (DSS), disease-free (DFS). A nomogram was developed...
A simple handheld device based on the fluorescence analysis of 3,6-bis(1-methyl-4-vinylpyridinium)carbazole diiodide (BMVC) stained cells was established for routine screening and potentially early detection cancer at extremely low cost. Flow cytometry assay further supported utility this device, where a preliminary study tissue biopsy showed highly encouraging results.
