This study included 676 surgery patients with signs and symptoms indicative of wound infections, who presented over the course 6 years. Bacterial pathogens were isolated from 614 individuals. A single etiologic agent was identified in 271 patients, multiple agents found 343, no 62. high preponderance aerobic bacteria observed. Among common Staphylococcus aureus (191 28.2%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (170 25.2%), Escherichia coli (53 7.8%), epidermidis (48 7.1%), Enterococcus faecalis (38 5.6%).
Abstract Objectives To analyse the impact of cefiderocol use on outcome in patients admitted to ICU for severe COVID-19 and further diagnosed with carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CR-Ab) infection. Methods Retrospective multicentre observational study was performed at four Italian hospitals, from January 2020 April 2021. Adult CR-Ab infections were enrolled. Patients treated cefiderocol, as compassionate use, least 72 h compared those receiving alternative regimens. Primary...

Importance
Convalescent plasma (CP) has been generally unsuccessful in preventing worsening of respiratory failure or death hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
Objective
To evaluate the efficacy CP plus standard therapy (ST) vs ST alone
Design, Setting, and Participants
This prospective, open-label, randomized clinical trial enrolled (1:1 ratio) pneumonia to receive between July 15 December 8, 2020, at 27 sites Italy. Hospitalized adults a partial...
Abstract Dengue is the most common arboviral disease globally. It caused by four distinct but closely related viruses (DENV-1, -2, -3, and − 4) transmitted through bites of infected Aedes species mosquito vectors. In last 50 years, incidence has increased 30-fold with increasing geographic expansion to new countries. Here we report important autochthonous epidemic in Italy ever recorded a total 86 confirmed cases occurring September 2024 Fano. They were DENV-2. 61 fever, 21 warning signs no...
The use of Etest strips for antimicrobial susceptibility testing is a new and promising method with broad applications in microbiology. Since these contain predefined continuous gradient drug, it possible to obtain reproducible, quantitative MIC reading. We performed prospective double-blinded study compare the National Committee Clinical Laboratory Standards (Villanova, Pa.) broth macrodilution methods determining MICs fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole 100 clinical isolates (25...
A comparative study of broth macro- and microdilution methods for susceptibility testing fluconazole, itraconazole, flucytosine, amphotericin B was conducted with 273 yeasts. The clinical isolates included 100 Candida albicans, 28 tropicalis, 25 parapsilosis, 15 lusitaniae, krusei, 50 Cryptococcus neoformans var. neoformans, Torulopsis (Candida) glabrata, Trichosporon beigelii strains. Both were performed according to the National Committee Clinical Laboratory Standards' (NCCLS)...
ABSTRACT Candida tropicalis is less commonly isolated from clinical specimens than albicans . Unlike C. , which can be occasionally found as a commensal, almost always associated with the development of fungal infections. In addition, has been reported to resistant fluconazole (FLC). To analyze FLC resistance in an FLC-susceptible strain (ATCC 750) (MIC = 1.0 μg/ml) was cultured liquid medium containing increasing concentrations 8.0 128 μg/ml. The developed variable degrees paralleled used...
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to compare MICs fluconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, and voriconazole obtained by the European Committee on Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) CLSI (formerly NCCLS) methods in each six centers for 15 Candida albicans (5 fluconazole-resistant 4 susceptible-dose-dependent [S-DD] isolates), 10 C. dubliniensis , 7 glabrata (2 5 guilliermondii krusei 9 lusitaniae parapsilosis tropicalis (1 isolate) isolates. were visually at 24 48 h...
Invasive aspergillosis (IA) in liver transplant recipients is associated with grave outcomes. We reviewed 116 individual cases reported the literature from 1985 to 2013. IA was diagnosed after a median of 25 days transplantation and involved single organ 51% cases, whereas remaining multiple sites were involved. The most common infecting Aspergillus species fumigatus (73%), flavus (14%), terreus (8%). Amphotericin B drug frequently used, it followed by voriconazole itraconazole. Combination...
Background Candidemia is a life-threatening fungal infection and it can affect patients of all ages. Characterization candidemia in the elderly lacking. Methods We performed retrospective study adults (≥ 18 years) with diagnosed our center 2010–2015. Demographics, comorbidities, clinical microbiologic characteristics, antifungal treatment outcome were compared between older (≤65 younger (>65 patients. Results Among 302 identified during period, 188 (62%) belonged to group. Comorbidities...
Remdesivir is a prodrug with in vitro activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Its clinical efficacy patients COVID-19 under mechanical ventilation remains to be evaluated. This study includes confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted the ICU of Pesaro hospital between 29 February and 20 March 2020. During this period, remdesivir was provided on compassionate use basis. Clinical characteristics outcome treated were collected retrospectively compared those...
Abstract Objectives Terbinafine resistance is increasingly reported in Trichophyton, rendering susceptibility testing particularly important non-responding cases. We performed a multicentre evaluation of six EUCAST-based methods. Methods Ten laboratories tested terbinafine, itraconazole, voriconazole and amorolfine against blinded panel 38 terbinafine WT target gene mutant isolates. E.Def 9.3.1 modifications included: medium with/without addition chloramphenicol cycloheximide (CC),...
