Studies investigating the evolution of flowering plants have long focused on isolating mechanisms such as pollinator specificity. Some recent studies proposed a role for introgressive hybridization between species, recognizing that processes specialization may not be complete barriers to hybridization. Occasional therefore lead distinct yet reproductively connected lineages. We investigate balance introgression and reproductive isolation in diverse clade using densely sampled phylogenomic...
Morphological studies on Celtis over the last 50 years shown that pyrenes contain specific characters useful for delimitation of its species. Taxonomic revisions groups in this genus, however, ignored pyrenes, leading to recognition highly variable species complexes. In study, we reexamine one such groups, C. iguanaea complex, evaluate taxonomy. This taxonomic group is widely distributed Neotropical region and was previously treated as a single Numerous species-level synonyms have been used....
Abstract Background and Aims If we replayed the tape of life, would large lineages evolve into same dazzling diversity observed today? While macroevolutionary drivers underlying plant diversification have been investigated for some genera, many clades remain understudied. Ficus L., with 876 species, one largest most ecologically important genera in Moraceae, is renowned its iconic inflorescence, intricate pollination mutualism, broad ecological adaptability. As sole member monotypic tribe...
Abstract Subtribe Vrieseinae comprise four genera, Alcantarea, Stigmatodon, Vriesea s.s. and Waltillia, encompassing c. 20% of species in Tillandsioideae (Bromeliaceae), almost all which are exclusive to Brazil. Here, we explore the biogeographic history Vrieseinae, sampling 21 22 genera (130 terminals) three DNA sequence markers (two plastid: rps16-trnK matK; one nuclear: PHYC). We inferred a dated phylogeny ancestral areas this lineage through RASP (reconstruct state phylogeny) analyses....
Studies that place the origin of stem node Ficus in Gondwana or Eurasia at c. 136–134 Mya are not congruent with estimated Moraceae Late Cretaceous. To elucidate these origins, molecular analyses were performed using three calibration points BEAST 268 terminal taxa based on ITS, ETS, G3pdh, ncpGS and GBSSI sequences. S-DIVA, DEC S-DEC used to estimate ancestral areas. The arrangement staminate flowers within syconium supports current phylogenetic framework Ficus. Our results suggest lineage...
Abstract The infrageneric nomenclature of Ficus , the largest genus in Moraceae, is reviewed. We call attention to three overlooked subgeneric names, F . subg. Terega Raf., Sycomorus Raf. and Spherosuke four sectional sect. Cordifoliae G. Don, Pogonotrophe (Miq.) Miq., F. Platyphyllae Mildbr. & Burret Urostigma (Endl.) Griseb., that have priority over other long‐used names. also effect a new combination into based on Apiosycea Miq. In addition, we designate types for 6 generic 17
Brazilian protected areas are essential for plant conservation in the Atlantic Forest domain, one of 36 global biodiversity hotspots. A major challenge improving actions is to know richness, by these areas. Online databases offer an accessible way build species lists and provide relevant information about biodiversity. list land plants "Parque Nacional do Caparaó" (PNC) was previously built using online published on website "Catálogo de Plantas das Unidades Conservação Brasil." Here, we...
Brazil is one of the most biodiverse countries in world, with about 37,000 species land plants. Part this biodiversity within protected areas. The development online databases last years greatly improved available data. However, existing do not provide information areas which individual plant occur. lack such a crucial gap for conservation actions. This study aimed to show how captured from databases, cleaned by protocol and verified taxonomists allowed us obtain comprehensive list vascular...
In preparation for a new Neotropical taxonomic review and global phylogeny focusing on the lineages of Celtis, some nomenclatural changes are needed. Lectotypes designated Celtis alnifolia, C. asperula, brasiliensis, clausseniana, diffusa, morifolia, fluminensis, glycycarpa, hilariana, membranacea, orthacanthos, selloviana Momisia integrifolia, an epitype is asperula. flavovenarum was proposed as name to replace homonym morifolia. For spinosa we provide locality its type.
Androcalymma Dwyer, a monospecific and morphologically unique genus on the legume subfamily Dialioideae, stands out as one of less known genera Fabaceae, not being molecularly sampled in phylogenetic studies family until now, which led to an uncertain position among other taxa its clade. glabrifolium, endemic small hardly accessible area Brazilian Amazon rainforest, was collected once 1936 never seen after that, even conjectured possibly extinct. Here we describe recent expedition searching...

Abstract Ficus subg. Pharmacosycea sect. has never been comprehensively sampled in previous phylogenetic analyses of Ficus. The published phylogenies have focused mostly on the study whole genus, with a sampling only few taxa fromthis group. Our represents first molecular analysis focusing this section, including 27 terminals representing 20 its 35 species and 31 other three nuclear DNA sequences (ITS, G3pdh, ETS) add considerably to our knowledge relationships within peculiar lead proposed...
Abstract The origin of the high biodiversity in Neotropics remains an unresolved but critical question, especially for species-rich understudied savannas Brazil, such as campos rupestres and Cerrado. To address this knowledge gap, we leveraged Tibouchina s.s., a clade flowering plants Melastomataceae found Cerrado rupestres, to uncover processes that generated hyper-diverse flora Neotropical savannas. We used phylogenomic approach combined with ecological niche modelling biogeographic...
Abstract— This work presents the new taxon Ficus series Dugandii characterized by syconium ostiolar margin with wall curved to outer side of syconium, forming a short apical tube, irregularly rounded triangular. For this study, field trips were carried out and collections herbarium specimens, types, protologues analyzed. The has 15 species 50 synonyms proposed here, distributed from Mexico Antilles southeastern Brazil. Names like F. llanensis , llewelynii, mitrophora previously synonymous,...
Abstract A new species of Ficus sect. Pharmacosycea, endemic to the municipality Barbacoa, Narino, Colombia is here described and illustrated as dewolfii Pederneiras & Romaniuc. It characterized by a caudate leaf apex lateral veins diverging from midrib almost at right angle, shows similarities with F. rieberiana, apollinaris, mutisii.
The Atlantic Forest is one of the most threatened biomes in world. Despite that, this biome still includes many areas that are poorly known floristically, including several protected areas, such as "Floresta Nacional do Rio Preto" ("Flona Preto"), located Brazilian State Espírito Santo. This study used a published vascular plant species list for area from "Catálogo de Plantas das Unidades Conservação Brasil" basis to synthesise richness, endemism, conservation and new occurrences found...
Ficus subg. Pharmacosycea sect. (Moraceae, Rosales) is a monophyletic and neotropical plant group characterized mainly by having syconia with three basal bracts male flowers two stamens. Colombia has the largest diversity of but taxonomic studies on this are scant, thus we aimed to revise taxonomy F. Pharmacosycea. This study based fieldwork, examination herbarium material literature. in comprises 21 species, 14 commonly known: apollinaris, carchiana, crassiuscula, dewolfii, dulciaria,...
