To investigate corneal wound healing following ultraviolet-A (UVA)/riboflavin collagen cross-linking (CXL) in rabbit corneas.Thirty-six rabbits were enrolled the study. Animals divided into three treatment groups and corneas analyzed at 24 hours 4 weeks postoperatively. Thus, each group had 6 time point. Treatment were: 1) standard UVA+riboflavin CXL, 2) UVA alone, 3) riboflavin alone. One eye of served as an untreated control eye. TUNEL assay was performed to detect stromal cell apoptosis....
ABSTRACT Endosymbiotic Wolbachia bacteria are abundant in the filarial nematodes that cause onchocerciasis (river blindness), including larvae (microfilariae) migrate into cornea. Using a mouse model of ocular onchocerciasis, we recently demonstrated it is these endosymbiotic rather than per se induce neutrophil infiltration to corneal stroma and loss clarity (Saint Andre et al., Science 295 :1892-1895, 2002). To better understand role organisms pathogenesis this disease, examined fate...
For the last 10 years, Partnership for Citrus Workers Health (PCWH) has been an evidence-based intervention program that promotes adoption of protective eye safety equipment among Spanish-speaking farmworkers Florida. At root this is systematic use community-based preventive marketing (CBPM) and training community health workers (CHWs) citrus harvester using popular education. CBPM a model combines organizational system participatory research (CBPR) strategies social marketing. This...
Over the past 20 years, significant advances in surveillance and management of rectal cancer have been achieved 1,2 . Concerning surgical management, a sphincter-preserving low anterior resection with total mesorectal excision has become standard care whenever technically feasible 1 However, even most sound can negatively affect patients following surgery, 80-90% developing bowel dysfunction after known as syndrome (LARS) [3][4][5] LARS encompasses constellation symptoms ranging from fecal...
Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) can be a debilitating condition that develops after undergoing sphincter-preserving surgery for rectal cancer. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is common side effect of platinum-based chemotherapy agents used as systemic therapy cancer treatment. The purpose this study was to determine the potential relationship between CIPN and LARS.
The medical community has increasingly embraced social media for a variety of purposes, including trainee education, research dissemination, professional networking, and recruitment trainees faculty. Platform choice usage patterns appear to vary by specialty purpose, but few studies comprehensively assess programs' presence. Prior assessed general surgery departments' Twitter use omitted additional platforms residency-specific accounts. This study sought broadly characterize the footprint...
