Objective To assess objective and subjective evidence of sleep disorders in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) to examine correlations between parameters activity, depression, disturbances. Methods Fourteen SLE 11 normal control subjects similar age underwent all-night polysomnography on 3 consecutive nights. The controls were also evaluated for daytime sleepiness by the Multiple Sleep Latency Test completed a questionnaire Beck Depression Inventory. Results polysomnographic...
Abstract The accuracy of contemporary risk scores in predicting perioperative mortality infective endocarditis (IE) remains controversial. aim is to evaluate the performance existent for cardiovascular surgery IE and impact on operability at high-risk thresholds. A single-center retrospective review adult patients diagnosed with acute left-sided undergoing from May 2014 August 2019 ( n = 142) was done. Individualized calculation obtained according available scores: EuroScore I II, PALSUSE,...
ABSTRACT Donation after circulatory death is helping to expand the donor pool for heart transplantation. Nevertheless, these hearts are more susceptible myocardial edema and decision of accepting organ can be a challenge transplant team. Hemodynamic echocardiographic criteria used routinely, but there still lack strong evidence that supports decision-making in particular situations. That why authors found useful analyze case with good outcome could help organs situation shortage.
Abstract OBJECTIVES Infective endocarditis (IE) with intervalvular fibrosa (IVF) involvement is a life-threatening condition. Fibrous skeleton reconstructive options encompass variants of the Commando operation dictated by surgical findings. We aim to review characteristics and outcomes patients undergoing different iterations this operation. METHODS Retrospective analysis who underwent IVF reconstruction in setting acute IE at two national referral centres from April 2014 November 2023....
The POET trial demonstrated that moving from intravenous to oral antibiotics in stable patients with left-sided infective endocarditis (IE) was noninferior fully parenteral treatment. However, it did not compare outpatient strategies. OraPAT-IE GAMES is a noninferiority, multicenter, randomized, open-label study aimed partial versus antibiotic therapy (OPAT) for consolidation of treatment IE. A total 342 IE caused by selected micro-organisms will eventually be included. After minimum 10 days...
In total, 189 consecutivewomen diagnosed with SLE were evaluated using the ACR 1990 criteria for fibromyalgia. Patients classified into three subgroups. The fibromyalgia group (FM) included patients experiencing pain on palpation in at least 11 of 18 tender points examined, as well having a history widespread months. who noted to have fewer than four quadrants less considered regional (RP). All patientswho did not meet eitherFM or RP no (NP). Measurement disease activity, sleep complaints,...
Surgical repair remains the best treatment for severe primary mitral regurgitation (MR). Minimally invasive valve surgery is being increasingly performed, but there a lack of solid evidence comparing thoracoscopic with conventional surgery. Our objective was to compare outcomes both approaches leaflet prolapse. All consecutive patients undergoing MR due prolapse from 2012 2020 were evaluated according approach used. Freedom mortality, reoperation and recurrent by Kaplan-Meier method....
Introduction and objectives: Septal myectomy remains the first septal reduction therapy for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy in young patients those requiring concomitant procedures. Its role advanced ages is questioned due to perceived increased risk. We assess outcomes of surgical relief obstruction beyond 65 years old. Methods: A single-center retrospective review ≥ old undergoing through median sternotomy between April 2015 February 2020. Results: identified 52 patients. Mean age...
The current generation of adolescents is the largest ever, with 1.2 billion people aged 10-19 years worldwide. They are at risk inheriting a world blighted by climate change and scarred covid-19. Although they have been spared most severe direct effects pandemic, indirect on their wellbeing devastating.12 Many experiencing disruptions to access health, education, preventive services, pandemic has further exacerbated inequalities.1 changing everything for youth, as experience transitions that...
Endovascular repair of the thoracic aorta has shown reduced morbidity and mortality compared with open surgery. We describe our experience endovascular stent grafting in treatment acute aortic pathology. From October 2003 to January 2008, 25 patients underwent graft aorta. The underlying pathology was a complicated Stanford type B dissection (n = 13), symptomatic or ruptured aneurysm 6), penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer 5), traumatic injury 1). There were 21 males four female mean age 61.3...
Presenting this video tutorial, we want to demonstrate a step-by-step surgical approach acute intramural haematoma of the thoracic aorta without definite entry tear. Limited by aortic valve proximally, involved root, ascending aorta, arch, including adjacent parts supra-aortic branches, and descending extending diaphragmatic level. The operative strategy urgent total arch replacement with frozen elephant trunk technique anatomical reimplantation three vessels. direct open over-the-wire was...
Coronary pseudoaneurysm is an extremely rare condition. We present the case of a 77-year-old patient with myocardial ischemia caused by extrinsic compression left main coronary artery due to circumflex artery. In our case, was successfully treated cardiac surgery.
Early degeneration of tricuspid bioprostheses is a rare, but extremely serious, complication. Several mechanisms have been described, both for surgically implanted and transcatheter bioprosthesis. We report case early porcine bioprosthesis subsequent valve-in-valve bovine prosthesis due to severe fibrosis with leaflet retraction in patient restrictive cardiomyopathy who finally underwent orthotopic heart transplantation.
