Abstract The biguanide metformin is widely used for treating diabetes mellitus. We previously showed the chemopreventive effect of in two rodent models colorectal carcinogenesis. However, besides epidemiologic studies, little known about effects on human objective this pilot study was to evaluate rectal aberrant crypt foci (ACF), which are an endoscopic surrogate marker cancer. prospectively randomized 26 nondiabetic patients with ACF treatment (250 mg/d, n = 12) or no (control, 14); 23 were...
Cationic π-conjugated polymers form an interchain helically π-stacked assembly with anionic chiral compounds that is stabilized by both electrostatic and π−π interactions to hierarchically self-organize into a spherulite circularly polarized blue luminescence. To the best of our knowledge, this first example chiroptical constructed from polymers. Detailed facts importance specialist readers are published as "Supporting Information". Such documents peer-reviewed, but not copy-edited or...
LETM1 is located in the chromosomal region that deleted patients suffering Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome; it encodes a homolog of yeast protein Mdm38 involved mitochondrial morphology. Here, we describe LETM1-mediated regulation volume and its interaction with AAA-ATPase BCS1L responsible for three different human disorders. inner-membrane large domain extruding to matrix. The LETM2 expressed preferentially testis sperm. downregulation caused swelling cristae disorganization, but seemed have...
Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) is a rare, serious motility disorder, with life-threatening complications over time. However, lack of an established, non-invasive diagnostic method has caused delays in the diagnosis this intractable disease. Cine-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) emerging technique, potential to evaluate entire bowel. We compared small bowel healthy volunteers, patients irritable syndrome (IBS), and those CIPO, using cine-MRI, evaluated usefulness cine-MRI as...
Background: We estimated the prevalence and incidence of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) in Japan, investigated patterns hospital visits among those with CIPO, examined present knowledge CIPO medical professionals. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire survey was distributed to targeted hospitals throughout which were selected using stratified random sampling. The asked about number patients receiving treatment for frequency their visits, overall clinical...
Previously, we reported two types of neutral ceramidase in mice, one solubilized by freeze-thawing and not. The former was purified as a 94-kDa protein from mouse liver, cloned (Tani, M., Okino, N., Mori, K., Tanigawa, T., Izu, H., Ito, M. (2000) J. Biol. Chem. 275, 11229–11234). In this paper, describe the purification, molecular cloning, subcellular distribution 112-kDa membrane-bound rat kidney, which completely insoluble freeze-thawing. open reading frame enzyme encoded...
The changes in the liver nonalcoholic fatty disease (NAFLD) range over a wide spectrum, extending from steatosis to steatohepatitis (NASH). However it has remained difficult differentiate between NASH and non-progressive NAFLD on basis of clinical findings alone. In this study we investigated usefulness plasma Pentraxin3 (PTX3) levels predict NASH. Plasma PTX3 was measured 70 patients with histologically verified (28 non-NASH 42 NASH) 10 healthy control subjects. The level significantly higher...
Abstract Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common causes chronic injury in many countries. Genetic factors are important for development NAFLD, as well environmental factors. Recently an angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AGTR1) has been recognized aetiology fibrosis liver. Objective: In this study we investigated association between gene polymorphism ( ATGR1 ) and NAFLD. Methods: One hundred sixty‐seven NAFLD patients [106 with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis...
Abstract Background Genetic factors as well environmental are important in the development of NAFLD and this study we investigated associations between polymorphisms peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α polymorphism ( PPARGC1A ) NAFLD. Aims We recruited 115 patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD, 65 NASH 50 simple steatosis, 441 healthy control subjects 15 SNPs . Results SNP rs2290602 had lowest p value dominant mode = 0.00095), odds ratio for (95% CI) was 2.73 (1.48 –...
Tight junctions regulate paracellular permeability, create the luminal fluid microenvironment of blood vessels and digestive tract, also form protective barrier in stratified epithelium including epidermis. Claudins are integral membrane proteins at tight a multigene family composed least 24 members, but knowledge subcellular localization each claudin is still fragmentary. We performed RT-PCR for fifteen species to examine mRNA expression various mouse tissues, focused on investigating...
Coupled torsional-flexural vibration of a shaft in spur geared system is investigated. Equation motion which contain the terms geometrical eccentricity gears and mass unbalance are introduced. The coupling between torsional flexural displacements considered equations assume that surfaces tooth meshed always contact during rotation. By solving equation, it possible to get natural frequencies, mode shapes, frequency response system. It usual ignore effect vibrations. But comparing result with...
ABSTRACT We determined the mode of action nukacin ISK-1. It did not cause membrane potential dissipation or efflux ATP K + ions from cells a sensitive bacterial strain; however, it blocked depolarization activity nisin. Nukacin ISK-1-treated had single arrangements without formation complete septum. A remarkable reduction in cell wall width was also observed, but cytoplasmic content unaffected. concluded that ISK-1 is bacteriostatic.
