Refractoriness of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) largely depends on its radioresistance. We investigated the radiosensitizing effects celecoxib GBM cell lines under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions. Two human lines, U87MG U251MG, a mouse line, GL261, were treated with or γ-irradiation either alone in combination Radiosensitizing analyzed by clonogenic survival assays growth assessing apoptosis autophagy. Expression apoptosis-, autophagy-, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress–related genes...
Although radiation skin injuries associated with interventional radiology have been known as a critical issue, there are few reports mentioning direct measurement of the entrance dose (ESD). Thus, purpose this study was to clarify regional distributions ESDs in neurointervention.Using photoluminescence glass dosimeters (PLDs), we measured 32 patients median age 61.5 years. Angiographic parameters, including exposure time, dose-area product (DAP), and number digital subtraction angiography...
Purpose: To clarify the properties of clinical high-energy protons by comparing with X-rays.Materials and methods: Human tumor cell lines, ONS76 MOLT4, were irradiated 200 MeV or 10 MV X-rays. In situ DNA double-strand breaks (DDSB) induction was evaluated immunocytochemical staining phosphorylated histone H2AX (γ-H2AX). Apoptosis measured flow-cytometry after Annexin V. The relative biological effectiveness (RBE) obtained clonogenic survival assay. Results: DDSB significantly higher for than...
Ionizing radiation exposure may not only cause acute syndrome, but also an increased risk of late effects. It has been hypothesized that induction chronic oxidative stress mediates the effects ionizing radiation. However, a few reports have analyzed changes in long-term antioxidant capacity after irradiation vivo. Our previous study demonstrated whole-blood and red blood cell (RBC) glutathione levels within 50 days total body (TBI). In this study, seven-week-old, male, C57BL/6J mice exposed...
Clinicopathological features of mammary gland tumors (MGTs) in 101 dogs were evaluated retrospectively. The incidence histological malignancy 60 small- and 41 other-breed 25% 58.5%, respectively. In 82 epithelial MGTs, small-sized (< 3 cm) or non-invasive predominant small breeds. multivariate survival analysis, breed (p=0.048) lower stage tumor cell invasion (p=0.006) significantly associated with longer time. These results suggest that the biological MGTs is small-breed than others.
This study was conducted in order to evaluate the cytotoxicity of high linear-energy-transfer (LET) ionizing radiation (IR) on glioblastoma cells and fibroblasts using different modes cell inactivation assays. Two human lines with or without p53-mutation, were used as materials. Gamma rays 290 MeV/u carbon beams LET values 20, 40, 80 keV/μm used. To inactivation, we colony formation assay, morphological detection apoptosis, flow-cytometry. Serial expressions p53 p21 analyzed by...
Edaravone (3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one; Radicut) is a brain-protecting agent used clinically to treat acute ischemic stroke with reaction mechanism of free radical scavenging. Since the initial stage radiation damage involves formation radicals, edaravone expected be effective in preventing lethal from ionizing radiation. In present study, we mice examine vivo radioprotective effect on whole body X-ray irradiation. A solution was administered intraperitoneally C3H (male, 10 weeks...
To elucidate the in vivo biological effects induced by carbon-ion irradiation using comprehensive expression analysis. In all tumors, level of several tens genes, including Ccl3, Ccng1, Cd80, Cdkn1a, Cxcl2, IL7r, Lrdd, Mgmt, Mmp8 and Polk, was significantly altered 6 h day 1 following C-ion irradiation. At 3, hundred many which are also classified as stress-response or cell-communication Tnfrsf5, Ikbke Icam1, were upregulated The majority these genes similar gamma-ray treatment, although...
Many reports have demonstrated that radiation stimulates reactive oxygen species (ROS) production by mitochondria for a few hours to days after irradiation. However, these studies were performed using cell lines, and there is lack of information about redox homeostasis in irradiated animals humans. Blood reflects the body condition well can be used as diagnostic marker. most focused on plasma or serum, anti-oxidant capacity whole blood has scarcely been investigated. Here, we report changes...
PurposeAn augmented reality (AR) application to help medical staff involved in interventional radiology (IR) learn how properly use ceiling-suspended radiation shielding screens was created, and its utility tested from the perspective of learner motivation.MethodThe distribution scattered an angiography room visualized with AR three settings: when a screen is not used (incorrect); there gap between bottom edge patient's torso no (correct). This by 33 staff, after which Instructional...
Interventional radiology (IR) utilizing X-rays can lead to occupational radiation exposure, posing health risks for medical personnel in the field. We previously conducted a survey on exposure of IR nurses three designated emergency hospitals Japan. Our findings indicated that hospital with 214 beds showed higher lens-equivalent dose than 678 and 1182 because distance between X-ray irradiation field nurse's position was shorter those beds. Based these observations, we hypothesized number...
Background: The impact of radiation exposure on cataracts and hand skin cancer in orthopaedic spine surgeons remains understudied. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence chronic inflammation assess their association with exposure. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted attending 38th Annual Meeting Neurospinal Society Japan or 31st Japanese for Study Low Back Pain. Cataractous changes were categorized into none, lens micro-opacity, detailed alongside inflammation, which...
Abstract It is crucial to monitor healthcare workers’ radiation exposure, especially given the increasing reliance on X-ray imaging technologies. In response new evidence that threshold for lens opacity lower than previously thought, International Commission Radiological Protection (ICRP) has revised annual dose limit exposure of eye. After revision eye limit, survey dosemeter wearing rate was conducted in Japan. The result showed despite presence monitoring protocols, among workers still...
Background. Radiation-induced rib fracture has been reported as a late complication after external radiotherapy to the chest. The purpose of this study was clarify characteristics and risk factors hypofractionated proton beam therapy (PBT). Material methods. retrospective comprised 67 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who were treated using PBT 66 Cobalt-Gray-equivalents [Gy (RBE)] in 10 fractions. We analyzed patients' determined dose-volume histograms (DVHs) for irradiated ribs, then...
The aim of this study was to quantify the hydroxyl radicals (*OH) produced when aqueous solutions are decomposed by high-linear energy transfer (LET) 290 MeV/nucleon carbon-ion beams using an electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer. Aerated cell culture medium containing 200 mM 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) irradiated with doses 0 20 Gy LET 90 keV/ micro m. We were able obtain ESR spectra 10 min after irradiation, and formation *OH hydrogen atoms confirmed radiolysis deuterium...
There are few reports on the biological homogeneity within spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP) of proton beams. Therefore, to evaluate relative effectiveness (RBE) and oxygen enhancement ratio (OER), human salivary gland tumor (HSG) cells were irradiated at plateau position (position A) three different positions a 6-cm-wide SOBP B, 26 mm proximal middle; C, D, distal middle) using 155-MeV/n beams under both normoxic hypoxic conditions Proton Medical Research Center, University Tsukuba, Japan. The...
