We have analyzed several members of drug-metabolizing enzymes (DMEs) and other polymorphisms in genes implicated tumor aggressivity regarding possible links between specific genetic variability systemic drug bioavailability toxicity breast cancer patients treated with adjuvant anthracycline-based treatment. PCR-RFLP sequencing analyses technique were used for evaluating fourteen previously identified 94 patients. GSTP1A > G MTHFR 1298A C genotypes remained as significant predictors a...

Introduction: Infections in hematological cancer patients are common and usually life-threatening; avoiding them could decrease morbidity, mortality, cost. Genes associated with antineoplastics’ pharmacokinetics or the immune/inflammatory response explain variability infection occurrence. Objective: To build a pharmacogenetic-based algorithm to predict incidence of infections undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy. Methods: Prospective cohort study adult receiving chemotherapy treat leukemia,...

Abstract Background The use of convalescent plasma (CP) to treat COVID-19 has shown promising results; however, its effectiveness remains uncertain. purpose this study was determine the safety and mortality CP among patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Study Design Methods This multicenter, open-label, uncontrolled clinical trial is currently being conducted at nine hospitals in Chile. Patients due who were still within 14 days since symptom onset classified into four groups: cancer severe...

Purpose: Neutropenia is a common event in patients undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy for the treatment of hematological malignancy. Some polymorphisms, as IL-6 − 572C>G (rs1800796), IL-1β 31 G>A (rs1143627), and CARD8 304T>A (rs2043211), genes related to inflammatory process, could affect level absolute neutrophil count (ANC) after chemotherapy. Since an efficient process enhances survival, we hypothesize that these polymorphisms are associated with ANC. Patients Methods: We carried out...

Pasteurella spp is a common cause of infection following animal bites. We report 20 cases infections in which was isolated during 15-year period at the Hospital Militar Santiago. Sixteen patients had soft tissue and bone infections, two respiratory tract one bacteremia without known localized site postoperative wound infection. The demographic clinical characteristics are described.
