Hard graft pays off for Henry: An efficient acid–base bifunctional mesoporous catalyst was prepared by one-step post-synthesis grafting of aminoorganoalkoxysilane groups on silica (see picture). The led to yields over 99 % in the Henry reaction (nitroaldol condensation) p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and nitromethane form nitrostyrene.

We report that the polarity and dielectric constants of solvents used for grafting organosilanes on mesoporous materials strongly affect concentration grafted organic groups, degree their site-isolation, catalytic properties resulting materials. Polar nonpolar as well polar-protic, dipolar-aprotic, were investigated. Polar-protic solvents, which have high constants, resulted in smaller concentrations ( approximately 1-2 mmol/g) polar groups such 3-aminopropyl higher surface area materials,...

We studied the effect of two types mesoporous silica nanoparticles, MCM-41 and SBA-15, on mitochondrial O2 consumption (respiration) in HL-60 (myeloid) cells, Jurkat (lymphoid) isolated mitochondria. SBA-15 inhibited cellular respiration at 25–500 µg/mL; inhibition was concentration-dependent time-dependent. The ATP profile paralleled that respiration. had no noticeable rate. In cells depleted metabolic fuels, 50 µg/mL delayed onset glucose-supported by 12 min 200 34 min; also Neither nor...

Gold (Au) catalysts have been rarely investigated for the oxidation of glucose in absence a base. These conditions are critical, however, to enable sequential one-pot combination cellulose hydrolysis and glucoseoxidation. Here we evaluate catalytic performance stability Au nanoparticles supported on metal oxides gluconic acid under unadjusted pH acidic conditions. The study provides insights into deactivation caused by leaching hydrothermal sintering nanoparticles, as well adsorption...

Abstract We report a solution‐phase synthetic route to copper nanoparticles with controllable size and shape. The synthesis of the is achieved by reduction copper(II) salt in aqueous solution hydrazine under air atmosphere presence poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as capping agent. results suggest that pH plays key role for formation pure nanoparticles, whereas concentration PAA important controlling geometric shape nanoparticles. average can be varied from 30 80 nm, depending on PAA. We report on the effects of surface density and spacing between grafted organoamines (and residual ungrafted silanols) amine-functionalized mesoporous materials their (cooperative) catalytic activity in Henry reaction. The bifunctional groups (amines silanols), site isolation, were controlled by one-step or two-step grafting a series organosilanes containing linear alkylamine, alkyldiamine, alkyltriamine, meta- para-substituted aromatic amines onto silica ethanol and/or toluene. produced...

Abstract Contemporary research indicates promising anticonvulsant effect of curcumin. However, its poor oral bioavailability is a major hindrance toward pharmacological action. Thus, this study was carried out to evaluate the acute liposome‐entrapped curcumin on increasing current electroshock seizures (ICES) test, pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)‐induced seizures, and status epilepticus in mice. Liposome‐entrapped doses 25 50 mg/kg demonstrated significant increase seizure threshold latency...

Imidazolones represent an important class of heterocycles present in a wide range pharmaceuticals, metabolites, and bioactive natural products serve as the active chromophore green fluorescent protein. Recently, imidazolones have received attention for their ability to act nonaromatic amide bond bioisotere which improves pharmacological properties. Herein, we tandem amidine installation cyclization with adjacent ester yield (4
