Interest is growing in treating multiple brain metastases with radiosurgery. We report on the effectiveness and tolerability of volumetric radiosurgery (VRS).We enrolled patients a ≥6-month estimated life expectancy 1 to 10 diameter ≤3 cm at 5 cancer centers. Volumetric was delivered fractions 98% target coverage, prescribed as 95% 50 Gy (47.5 fractions) no margin 40 (38 their 2-mm planning volumes, concurrent 20 whole volume. The treatment daily image guidance using conventional linear...

Background and objectiveActive surveillance (AS) has evolved into a widely applied treatment strategy for many men around the world with low-risk prostate cancer (or in selected cases intermediate-risk disease). Here, we report on safety acceptability of AS, outcomes low- tumours over time 14 623 follow-up 6 yr.MethodsClinical data from 26 999 AS 25 cohorts 15 countries have been collected an international database 2000 onwards.Key findings limitationsAcross our predefined four periods 4 yr...

Aim This study aimed to determine the impact of time from neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) surgery on complete pathologic response (pCR) rate in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. NAT decreases local recurrence Some achieve a pCR. The optimal between and maximize pCR remains uncertain. Method We identified adults T any , N M 0 adenocarcinoma treated short-course radiation (SCRT) or long-course chemoradiotherapy (LCRT) followed by total mesorectal excision. Three randomized trials have demonstrated that post-radical prostatectomy (RP) radiotherapy decreases biochemical relapse for those with adverse pathology. Our purpose was to describe the incidence of pathologic risk factors recurrence in a contemporary series patients treated RP and use post-RP radiotherapy. All incident prostate cancers diagnosed between January 2005 December 2007 were identified from tumour registry. Cases then linked records which included dose modality (external beam...

To evaluate the feasibility and to report early outcomes of focal treatment prostate cancer using low-dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR-PB).Seventeen patients were screened with multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI), 14 whom proceeded receive trans-perineal template mapping biopsy (TTMB). Focal LDR-PB was performed on five eligible dual air kerma strength plans based planning target volumes derived from locations determined by TTMB. Patient follow-up includes specific antigen (PSA)...

A novel approach for automatic localization of brachytherapy seeds in 3D transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) images, using machine learning based algorithm, is presented. radiofrequency signals were collected from 13 patients the linear array TRUS probe during procedure which needles are used insertion stranded seeds. Gold standard location on data obtained with guidance complete reconstruction seed locations multiple C-arm fluoroscopy views and creation training set. We designed trained a...

We determined (1) the 10-year survival outcomes after radical treatment of prostate cancer and (2) event-free following prostatectomy (RP) at a population-level in British Columbia (BC), Canada. We identified all men with new diagnosis BC between 1999 2000. Those treated RP, external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) or brachytherapy (BT) were identified. Overall survival, specific (PCSS) calculated from using Kaplan-Meier method. For those we (freedom salvage EBRT androgen ablation, death cancer)....

Residency experiences and teaching in oncology among urology residents are variable across Canada. We sought to identify how radiation medical concepts, as they pertain genitourinary malignancies, taught residents.A total of 190 trainees enrolled Canadian residency training programs were invited participate the study from January 2016 June 2016. Participants completed an online questionnaire addressing received. The overall response rate was 32%. Twenty-three percent respondents their...

Purpose: This retrospective study aims to quantify the positional accuracy of seed delivery in permanent breast implant (PBSI) brachytherapy at Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC). Methods: Treatment planning and post‐implant CT scans for 5 patients were rigidly registered using MIM Symphony™ software (MIM Software, Cleveland, OH) used evaluate differences between planned implanted positions. Total directional displacements calculated each patient a clinically relevant ‘needle coordinate system’,...

Purpose: Automatic planning for focal low-dose-rate prostate brachytherapy (LDR-PB) boost. Methods: A simulated annealing approach was utilized creating automatic LDR-PB boost plans using both geometric (i.e. adherence of isodose contours to structure contours) and dosimetric constraints. In 46 patients, four unilateral lesion scenarios were considered as the region, in anterior/posterior superior/inferior quadrants. Plans consisted seeds with two air kerma strengths (0.740U 0.351 or 0.354U)...

Malignancies associated with brachytherapy for prostate cancer are largely unreported in the literature. We report a case of post-brachytherapy osteogenic sarcoma pelvis 6 years after permanent 125I implant intermediate-risk cancer. The patient was treated neoadjuvant chemotherapy, limb-sparing surgical resection and postoperative radiation therapy unexpected positive margins.
