Atrial tachyarrhythmias (ATs) detected by implanted devices are often atrial fibrillation or flutter (AF) associated with stroke. We hypothesized that introduction and termination of anticoagulation based upon AT monitoring would reduce both stroke bleeding. randomized 2718 patients dual-chamber biventricular defibrillators to start stop on remote rhythm vs. usual office-based follow-up determined standard clinical criteria. The primary analysis compared the composite endpoint stroke,...

The current cardiac pacemakers are battery dependent, and the pacing leads prone to introduce valve damage infection, plus a complete pacemaker retrieval is needed for replacement. Despite reported wireless bioelectronics pace epicardium, open-chest surgery (thoracotomy) required implant device, procedure invasive, requiring prolonged wound healing health care burden. We hereby demonstrate fully biocompatible microelectronics with self-assembled design that can be rolled into lightweight...

We have investigated alterations in sarcolemmal function that occur during myocardial ischemia. Rabbit ventricles were incubated at 37 degrees C for time periods ranging from 5 min to 2 h. The ischemic tissue was homogenized, and activities of the enzymes Na+-K+-ATPase, K+-p-nitrophenylphosphatase (K+-pNPPase), adenylate cyclase measured crude homogenate. Na+-K+-ATPase K+-pNPPase substantially inhibited after only 10 ischemia, all three declined progressively up 1 h when 37-59% control....

We studied the performance of ventricular muscle and cardiac function hearts from rats conditioned by swimming (CH) sedentary (SH) in an isolated working heart apparatus modified to measure end-diastolic volume dye dilution. Instantaneous aortic flow, left (LV) pressure oxygen consumption were measured. Heart rate mean kept constant, atrial filling was varied 5 20 cm H2O. weights SH CH equal pressures volumes similar at all pressures. However, ejection fraction, calculated circumferential...

Abstract Pacemakers have existed for decades as a means to restore cardiac electrical rhythms. However, lead-related complications remained clinical challenge. While market-released leadless devices addressed some of the issues, their pacer-integrated batteries cause new health risks and functional limitations. Inductive power transfer enables wireless powering bioelectronic devices; however, Specific Absorption Rate size limitations reduce efficiency biomedical applications. We designed...

Abstract The first computer program that plans multi-step organic syntheses has been written. In the course of its operation generates partially complete synthetic pathways and ranks them as to efficiency. At each stage develops route which it judges be most efficient, extends by one step. Partially routes lose too much material are discarded. After tolerably efficient pathway from available starting materials goal molecule is completed, entire printed, together with yield step overall yield.
