Abstract Setaria italica (foxtail millet), a founder crop of East Asian agriculture, is model plant for C4 photosynthesis and developing approaches to adaptive breeding across multiple climates. Here we established the pan-genome by assembling 110 representative genomes from worldwide collection. The composed 73,528 gene families, which 23.8%, 42.9%, 29.4% 3.9% are core, soft dispensable private genes, respectively; 202,884 nonredundant structural variants were also detected....

Foxtail millet (Setaria italica), one of the oldest crops originating in China, has increasingly been recognized as a promising C4 model plant due to its compact diploid genome, short growth cycle and self-pollinating nature (Li Brutnell, 2011). In past 5 years, significant breakthroughs have achieved basic research breeding, including high efficient transformation system establishment, telomere-to-telomere (T2T) genome assembly, pan-genome analysis functional studies (He et al., 2023; Tang...

Apyrase is a class of enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis nucleoside triphosphates/diphosphates (NTP/NDP), which widely involved in regulation plant growth and stress responses. However, apyrase family genes maize have not been identified, their characteristics functions are largely unknown. In this study, we identified 16 apyrases (named as ZmAPY1-ZmAPY16) genome, analyzed phylogenetic relationships, gene structures, chromosomal distribution, upstream regulatory transcription factors...
