Sixty-two centres in 16 countries contributed with 2,694 open fractures cases to an international, multi-centric, retrospective cohort study involving different healthcare settings. The INTELLECT results show that there are significant disparities on the management of lower limb internationally. A timely, multidisciplinary, guideline-directed care is a protective factor for developing infective complications, non-union and requiring amputation.
Orbital exenteration presents a challenge to the reconstructive surgeon. Defects may be treated with split skin grafts, local advancement flaps, or free flap coverage. There are few published series showing long-term outcomes of reconstruction. Our results, at least 5-year follow-up, presented.A retrospective review 15 immediate reconstructions after orbital exenterations for malignancies in 12 patients tertiary referral center over period, was done. All flaps were followed up 5 years (mean,...
Abstract Background: Adipokines are a group of cell signaling proteins produced by adipose tissue. These influence appetite, obesity, and insulin sensitivity, may interact with thyroid hormones. However, the exact relationship between hormones adipokines remains unclear. Objectives: The aim this study was to evaluate compare serum levels adipolin in healthy individuals hypothyroidism patients, including subclinical (SCH) overt (OH). Materials Methods: study’s case–control design involved 90...
This paper reports an unusual case of ectopic nail formation, reviews the literature and proposes a simple classification this anomaly.
Abstract Eliminating recalcitrant prosthetic hip joint infections remains one of the greatest challenges in orthopedic surgery. In such cases, salvage procedure femoral head excision (the Girdlestone procedure) is often performed. There has been emerging surgical interest filling resulting acetabular dead space with a pedicled muscle flap, to enable antibiotic delivery. Both vastus lateralis (VL) and rectus femoris (RF) flaps have described for this purpose good success. This study first...
Sir: Keloid and hypertrophic scarring are challenging problems, with numerous treatment modalities advocated.1 The injection of corticosteroids either in isolation or as an adjunct to excision has a low morbidity, is cost effective, frequently undertaken the outpatient setting. Effective administration intralesional requires approach that overcomes physical resistance posed by scar. Injection into thick scar usually necessitates use high pressure painful for patient.2 higher pressures...
Carcinomas of the pancreas represent less than 5% human malignant neoplasms [5], skin involvement is rare, and metastasis generally occurs at umbilical area. There are few reported cases with cutaneous lesions disclosing a pancreatic carcinoma sites other We report case metastases to scalp. The literature on reviewed discussed.
Background The anterolateral thigh (ALT) perforator flap is one of the most widely used flaps in reconstructive microsurgery. This study investigated a previously unexplored and clinically relevant aspect anatomy: “box junction” (BxJn), point at which arises from its source vessel. Negotiating BxJn can be challenging time-consuming step harvest, due to neurovascular structures area must protected injury. However, as presence location these have yet clearly defined, painstaking exploration...
Sir: A recognized role in breast reconstruction is being developed for the use of acellular dermal matrices (Strattice and AlloDerm; LifeCell Corp., Branchburg, N.J.). Advocates their report that addition to providing extra tissue implant coverage, they hide potential visibility further enhance aesthetics by giving surgeon greater control pocket, specifically, allowing define lateral inframammary folds.1 We a simple technique, from senior author’s experience with Strattice, used aid its...
