OBJECTIVE To assess treatment satisfaction and the effectiveness of a flash glucose monitoring (FGM) system in patients with type 2 diabetes using insulin. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total 101 on multiple daily insulin injections (MDI) for at least 1 year were assigned randomly to FGM intervention (n = 53) or standard care (control) group 48) followed 10 weeks. Both groups instructed adjust their doses face-to-face telephone visits. Satisfaction treatment, quality life, comfort FGM,...

Objective It is still uncertain whether mild primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) carries the same risk for increased cardiovascular (CV) morbidity as more severe symptomatic form. In recent years, even subtle normocalcemic (NC) variant being increasingly recognized. We sought to compare prevalence of CV factors in patients with NC- and hypercalcemic (HC)-PHPT, examine they differ on a battery non-invasive vascular parameters. Design/subjects/methods A retrospective study two cohorts PHPT...

To assess arterial stiffness in a cohort of hypogonadal males and to investigate the effect testosterone replacement therapy on properties this specific group.Eighteen male patients with untreated acquired hypogonadism due either adult-onset idiopathic hypogonadotropic (n=9) or pituitary tumor 12 age-, sex, weight-matched eugonadal healthy controls were recruited for study. Arterial properties, plasma glucose, lipid profile, total, bioavailable (BT) levels measured fasting state. In...

Context: Some clinical resemblance may exist between obesity, particularly abdominal and Cushing’s syndrome. This has stimulated ongoing interest in the role of cortisol's secretion pattern, control metabolism obesity. Goals: To investigate whether basal levels cortisol differ healthy people with obesity individuals normal weight Design: Total, free, salivary were tested at baseline state after 1 g ACTH stimulation 60 subjects 54 lean controls. Results: Baseline total was lower compared to...

We report on a case of man with familial, X-linked, partial androgen insensitivity, in whom new point mutation the receptor (AR) ligand-binding domain (causing valine-to-alanine substitution at codon 686) was identified. High-dose prolonged testosterone therapy resulted marked progression patient's appearance and great improvement sperm count characteristics. In combination intracytoplasmic microinjection, treatment fertility. This is believed to be first such case. supports high-dose...

Blood pressure (BP) variability (BPV) contributes to target organ damage independent of BP. The authors examined the effect a 1-year multidisciplinary intervention on BPV in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS) as defined by criteria from Third Report Adult Treatment Panel. Forty-four nondiabetic underwent clinical and biochemical profiling, 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM), body composition, carotid intima-media thickness, carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV). targeted all...

This study evaluated the rate and characteristics of travel-associated health risks adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared healthy same-aged individuals.A retrospective was conducted 47 T1DM 48 without (controls). Structured questionnaires accessed information regarding 154 international trips during preceding 5 years lasted 7 days longer.Mean ± SD ages diabetic control groups were 26.6 5.0 26.9 2.6 years,...

In the treatment of obesity/metabolic syndrome, dietary measures traditionally focus on reducing carbohydrate/fat-related caloric intake. The possibility that changes in potassium consumption may be related to achieved weight loss has not been previously explored.Sixty-eight participants, with a mean age 51.6 ± 11.0 years (F/M-30/38), who fulfilled ATPIII criteria for metabolic syndrome (MS) were enrolled into 1-year intensive multidisciplinary program. Nutritional recommendation consisted...

Considerable controversy exists as to what extent left atrial receptors play a role in the physiological regulation of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) secretion. We studied conscious dogs during stable water diuresis induced by continuous infusion hypotonic saline, whom acute inflation chronically implanted pulmonary artery balloon consistently produced antidiuresis.Following nine dogs, glomerular filtration rate (GFR) (67 ± 8 70 6 ml/min,P < 0.2) and osmolar clearance (C Osm ) (3.1 0.2 3.3 +...

Low diastolic blood pressure (DBP) is commonly seen in well-controlled hypertensive subjects. We evaluated arterial properties 53 subjects with low on-treatment DBP (<70 mm Hg; LODP), 54 normal BP and spontaneously (SLDP), 52 treated ≥70 Hg (HNDP). The two measures of large artery rigidity, pulse wave velocity augmentation index, were similar LODP SLDP groups. In contrast, the HNDP group had higher PWV lowest small compliance comparison all other associated favorable mid-older patients.
