Metabolism is a critical basis for immune cell functionality. It was recently shown that NK subsets from peripheral blood modulate their expression of nutrient receptors following cytokine stimulation, demonstrating cells can adjust to changes in metabolic requirements. As availability and tissues significantly differ, we examined isolated paired blood-liver blood-spleen samples compared the transporters Glut1, CD98 CD71. CD56bright tissue-resident (CXCR6+) derived livers spleens expressed...

Rapid diagnostic testing for SARS-Cov-2 antigens is used to combat the ongoing pandemic. In this study we aimed compare two RDTs, SD Biosensor Q SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Test (Roche) and Panbio COVID-19 Ag (Abbott), against rRT-PCR.

NK cells expressing self-inhibitory receptors display increased functionality compared to lacking those receptors. The acquisition of functional competence in these particular NK-cell subsets is termed education. Little known about the underlying mechanisms that lead differences between educated and uneducated cells. An increasing number studies suggest cellular metabolism a determinant immune cell functions. Thus, alterations metabolic pathways may play role process Here, we glycolytic...

Abstract Background Widely available rapid testing is pivotal to the fight against COVID-19. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) remains gold standard. We compared two frequently used commercial diagnostic tests (RDTs) for SARS-CoV-2-antigens, SD Biosensor SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Test (Roche Diagnostics) and Panbio COVID-19 Ag (Abbott Diagnostics), rRT-PCR detection. Methods in 2215 all-comers at a centre between February 1 March 31, 2021. rRT-PCR-positive...

Nucleocytoplasmic shuttling and interaction with the cellular mRNA export factor UAP56 are prerequisites for activity of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) pUL69. Although murine homolog pM69 shuttles, it fails to mRNAs due its inability recruit UAP56. However, chimeric proteins comprising fused N-terminal pUL69 fragments, including motif, acquire activity. Importantly, growth curves recombinant HCMVs illustrate that such a protein, but not pM69, substitutes during HCMV infection.
