A positron pseudopotential is proposed that simplifies the description of a thermalized in metal or alloy. The method based on factorization wave function into an energy-independent core function, which accounts for detailed behavior when it approaches ion core, and smooth envelope pseudo function. satisfies Schr\"odinger-like equation with relatively weak potential---the pseudopotential. Pseudopotential differences have been calculated number alloys. results indicate may strong preference...

Positrons in metals and positronium quartz have been observed to thermalize down nearly liquid-helium temperatures before annihilation. The achievement of such low by both positrons approximately ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}10}$ sec indicates that phonon scattering plays a major role thermalization. These results important implications for the ability achieve high precision Fermi-surface studies positron-annihilation technique.

Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD; DPYD gene) variants have emerged as reliable predictors of adverse toxicity to the chemotherapy agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). The intronic variant rs75017182 has been recently suggested promote alternative splicing DPYD. However, both extent and true contribution DPD function remain unclear. In present study we quantified enzyme activity in carriers utilizing healthy volunteer specimens from Mayo Clinic Biobank. Although alternatively spliced transcript...

Group A streptococcus (GAS) is responsible for 15%-30% of cases acute pharyngitis in children. Macrolides such as azithromycin have become popular treating GAS pharyngitis. We report macrolide resistance rates a primary care setting our geographic area over the past 5 years and discuss implications making treatment decisions. Throat swabs were collected from children with May 2011 to 2015 Madison, Wisconsin. Susceptibility testing was performed erythromycin clindamycin using Kirby-Bauer disk...

Positron-annihilation experiments have been performed on a number of disordered Li-Mg alloys, and information the spatial distribution annihilating positrons has deduced. Measurements angular correlation two annihilation $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays positron lifetime made results used to obtain core-annihilation rates. The core rate is sensitive between different sorts sites in alloy, indicate that are sampling much greater proportion Li atoms alloy than mean concentration would indicate....

A method for calculating accurate positron wavefunctions and energies metals is presented which based on a pseudopotential picture the thermalized positron. The approach used involves systematically correcting Wigner-Seitz wavefunction energy using perturbation theory. results of calculations Al are these indicate that first order corrections lead to satisfactory second good energies. An unsatisfactory feature near nuclei present in earlier calculated truncated plane wave expansion rectified...

Positron motion has been observed in potassium, sodium, magnesium, and aluminum over a wide range of temperatures. The observations show that positrons are close to thermal equilibrium before annihilation even at liquid helium temperature. If Gaussian momentum distribution is fitted the data, it yields positron apparent mass m*/m 1.6 ± 0.1 K, 1.55 Na, 1.2 Mg, 1.3 Al. These new results fairly theoretical expectations, but subject not yet fully understood.

Glioblastoma is the most common adult primary brain tumor with near-universal fatality. Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules are important mediators of CD8 activation and can be downregulated by cancer cells to escape immune surveillance. BACKGROUND:Actinomucor elegans is an unusual cause of mucormycosis and can be difficult to identify by conventional methods. Mucormycosis has a very high mortality rate, especially among immunocompromised individuals. Due the morbid progressive nature opportunistic fungal infections, early diagnosis paramount for effective disease management. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time flight mass spectrometry (MALDI) Sanger sequencing are useful methods rapid pathogens. CASE REPORT:We...
