The Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip Score is widely used in Japan, but this tool designed to reflect the viewpoint of health-care providers rather than that patients. In gauging effect medical therapies addition clinical results, it necessary assess quality life (QOL) from However, there no evaluating QOL for patients with hip-joint disease. With aim more accurately classifying disease, we prepared a questionnaire 58 items survey derived 464 opinions obtained approximately 100 disease...

Objectives. To elucidate the epidemiology of nontraumatic osteonecrosis femoral head (ONFH), and to estimate annual incidence rate in Japan. Methods. We examined, over course 3 years, personal records radiographic images from national registry documents used for study ONFH patients Aichi Prefecture, Japan (population: 7.4 million). Those not meeting diagnostic criteria according Japanese Investigation Committee were excluded this study. Results. A total 285 out 327 who applied registration...

Objectives: A locomotive syndrome (LS) risk test for evaluation of physical ability is recently proposed. The objective this study to evaluate the utility by examining ability, neuropathic pain, nociceptive shoulder complaints, and quality life (QOL). Methods: prospective cohort was conducted in 523 subjects (240 males, 283 females; mean age: 63.3 years) at a health checkup. Data collected using visual analog scales (VAS) low back sciatica, knee complaint, body mass index (BMI),...

One thousand one hundred sixty-nine elderly Japanese patients who sustained a hip fracture were observed prospectively. Ninety-two percent had operative treatment. Hospital length of stay averaged 67 days; 81% discharged to their place residence where they resided before sustaining the fracture. Mortality rates at 120 days, 1 year, and 2 years after injury 6%, 11%, 19%, respectively. At 1-year followup, ambulatory status was recovered that level experienced in 67% patients.

We studied prospectively the change over ten years in mortality, walking ability and place of residence after a hip fracture 753 patients Japan. compared deaths observed these with those expected general population, matched for age, gender calender year at time fracture. The survival rate decreased dramatically two event mortality risk remained higher years. This was approximately double that even higher, so longer, younger rather than older patients. proportion who were able to walk...

We examined 304 persons (135 males and 169 females) who underwent a basic health checkup to evaluate the relationship of quality life (QOL) with osteoporosis, spinal sagittal balance, mobility, muscle strength, physical ability, including daily exercise. QOL middle-aged elderly subjects was strongly related balance ability. Spinal kyphosis compression fracture osteoporosis decrease increase mortality. However, it is unclear if kyphosis, ability influence QOL. The goal study back exercise, in...

Objectives: Sarcopenia reduces physical function, while chronic inflammation causes arteriosclerosis and decreases skeletal muscle. We conducted a cross-sectional study to elucidate the associations among sarcopenia, arteriosclerosis, in community-dwelling people. Methods: recruited 335 participants an annual health checkup. diagnosed sarcopenia based on appendicular muscle mass index (aSMI) assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis. measured several function tests, blood pressure, serum...

We investigated the spontaneous healing process of a surgically created supraspinatus tendon tear in rabbits with specific reference to expression matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and its time-course change enzymatic activity along tissue inhibitors metalloproteinases (TIMPs). A transverse, full thickness was examined. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that MMP-2 positive cells were mainly localized at both cutting ends tendon, reparative encroached into gap from bursal side. The...

The phase angle, which is measured via bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), a clinically important bioimpedance parameter used for nutritional assessment and evaluating the risk of various diseases, such as locomotive syndrome (LS). It remains unclear if angle associated with frailty (fragile state physical mental health). We therefore examined this association in large prospective sample. Of 1081 individuals receiving health checkups, 550 (male; 235, female; 365) were enrolled study....

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a common disease in older adults that causes extensive spinal ankylosis. However, its impact on quality of life (QOL) and locomotive syndrome (LS) remains unknown. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the DISH effect QOL LS community-dwelling middle-aged adults.
