Eight native plant extracts from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, Acacia polyphylla, Allophylus racemosus, Casearia arborea, Duguetia lanceolata, Metrodorea stipularis, Trichilia emarginata, Miconia willdenowii, Mollinedia widgrenii, were screened for potential schistosomicidal activity. The crude ethanolic extract of willdenowii (at a concentration 200 μg/mL) showed most promising results, killing approximately 65% Schistossoma mansoni worms, in comparison to praziquantel. This was then...
The tetraprenylated benzophenone 7-epiclusianone (7-epi) is a substance isolated from the fruits of Garcinia brasiliensis and in vitro studies have demonstrated that 7-epi effective against Schistosoma mansoni adult worms. Here we report vivo evaluation its pharmacokinetic healthy infected mice.In this work, assayed schistosomicidal activity at dose 100 mg/kg 300 body weight/day S. experimentally mice. Besides, two groups animals were treated detailed analysis plasma samples was performed by...
Schistosomiasis - caused by trematodes from the genus Schistosoma affects more than 200 million people worldwide. Growing resistance to therapy with praziquantel (PZQ) has encouraged search for novel treatments against this neglected disease. The compound 7-epiclusianone (7-epi) isolated 'bacupari' (the fruit of Gracinia brasiliensis tree) promising activity mansoni in vitro, damaging parasite's tegument. However, target and mechanism action 7-epi have not been identified. Here, we examined...
