Background. It is not known whether the pig liver capable of functioning efficiently when transplanted into a primate, neither there experience in transplanting from transgenic pigs expressing human complement regulator decay accelerating factor (h-DAF) baboon. The objective this study was to determine porcine would support metabolic functions non-human primates and establish effect hDAF expression prevention hyperacute rejection livers primates. Methods. Five orthotopic xenotransplants...
Abstract Diabetic nephropathy is the most important cause of renal failure worldwide and characterized by sustained inflammation regulated in part NLRP3 Inflammasome. Attenuation a major priority to prevent damage. Our previous publications show that DJ-1 has antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties kidney. ND-13 short peptide consisting 13 amino acids DJ-1-protein, which could increase pathway activation. The aim these studies was determine role pathogenesis diabetic study possible...
Abstract Background Some 7-10% of patients on replacement renal therapy (RRT) are receiving it because autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). The age at initiation RRT is expected to increase over time. Methods Clinical data 1,586 (7.9%) with ADPKD and 18,447 (92.1%) other nephropathies were analysed from 1984 through 2009 (1984–1991, 1992–1999 2000–2009). Results remained stable the three periods in group (56.7 ± 10.9 (mean SD) vs 57.5 12.1 57.8 13.3 years), whereas increased...
To report a case of Henoch-Schönlein purpura that appears to be related the intake clarithromycin for pharyngitis/tonsillitis.We describe associated with therapy in 48-year-old white man no history allergic drug reactions. Four days after starting therapy, he came our hospital emergency room because non-pruritic palpable purpuric rash on trunk and extremities arthralgias involving elbows knees. Administration was suspended, few days, skin lesions quickly resolved. Three weeks later, patient...
Abstract Expanded hemodialysis (HDx), using medium cut‐off membrane, is a novel therapy that effectively clears middle molecules (MMs). We aimed to compare HDx hemodiafiltration (HDF) in an open randomized clinical study. Patients currently on HDF (age 18–80 years; >3 months) were switch ( N = 21) or continue 22) with 24‐week follow‐up. Pre‐ post‐dialysis reduction ratios (RR) and changes pre‐dialysis levels over time evaluated for MMs biomarkers. Use of erythropoiesis‐stimulating agents...
Abstract Background Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients show an increased burden of atherosclerosis and high risk cardiovascular events (CVEs). There are several biomarkers described as being associated with CVEs, but their combined effectiveness in stratification CKD has not been tested. The objective this work is to analyse the ability 19 atheromatous predicting CVEs after 4 years follow-up a subcohort NEFRONA study individuals different stages without previous CVEs. Methods Nineteen...
Hyperkalemia is common among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) but there scarce information on differential risk factors and outcomes for men women. For instance, smoking has been suggested to be a factor hyperkalemia, specific analysis of the sex-specific impact hyperkalemia in CKD lacking. We studied serum potassium levels 2891 participants from NEFRONA cohort: 483 controls (47% women) 2408 (38% without prior cardiovascular (CVD), assessing whether if associated separately Median...
A 74-year-old woman developed acute renal failure and granulomatous interstitial nephritis associated with hydrochlorothiazide/amiloride. On stopping the drug function improved, but not significantly. Around 20 months after prednisone administration, had stabilized, a moderate degree of insufficiency. The case is discussed, some aspects induced by diuretics are briefly reviewed.
