The naturally occurring polyphenol resveratrol has been acknowledged with health-beneficial properties. Most of the studies dealing its in vivo effects assay huge doses, not representative from a dietary point view. Our aim was to ascertain whether can exert anti-inflammatory activity at an attainable dose. Rats were fed 1 mg resveratrol/kg/day (a human equivalent dose) for 25 days, and last 5 5% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) administered induce colitis. Effects on colon tissue damage, gut...
Variable X-ray and gamma-ray emission is characteristic of the most extreme physical processes in Universe, studying sources these energetic photons has been a major driver astronomy for past 50 years. Here we present multiwavelength observations unique selected transient, discovered by Swift, which was accompanied bright across electromagnetic spectrum, whose properties are unlike any previously observed source. We pinpoint event to center small, star-forming galaxy at redshift z=0.3534....
We have gathered optical photometry data from the literature on a large sample of Swift-era gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows including GRBs up to September 2009, for total 76 GRBs, and present an additional three pre-Swift not included in earlier sample. Furthermore, we publish 840 new points 42 GRB afterglows, sets 050319, 050408, 050802, 050820A, 050922C, 060418, 080413A 080810. analyzed light curves all derived spectral energy distributions with best quality, allowing us estimate host...
The water-soluble ellagitanin punicalagin has been reported to be toxic cattle. Taking into account that this antioxidant polyphenol is very abundant in pomegranate juice (≥2 g/L), the present study evaluated possible effect of Sprague−Dawley rats upon repeated oral administration a 6% punicalagin-containing diet for 37 days. Punicalagin and related metabolites were identified by HPLC-DAD-MS-MS plasma, liver, kidney. Five punicalagin-related detected liver kidney, is, two ellagic acid...
The exceptionally high luminosities of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), gradually emerging as extremely useful probes star formation, make them promising tools for exploration the high-redshift Universe. Here we present a carefully selected sample Swift GRBs, intended to estimate in an unbiased way GRB mean redshift (), constraints on fraction and upper limit heavily obscured afterglows. We find that at least 7% GRBs originate . In addition, consistent with pre-Swift observations, most 20%...
Aims.We present early optical spectroscopy of the afterglow gamma-ray burst GRB 060206 with aim determining metallicity absorber and physical conditions in circumburst medium. We also discuss how GRBs may be important complementary probes cosmic chemical evolution.
Abstract Background Recently, metabolic syndrome (MS) has gained attention in human medicine given its associations with development of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Canine obesity is associated the insulin resistance, dyslipidaemia, mild hypertension, but authors are not aware any existing studies examining existence or prevalence MS obese dogs. Thirty-five dogs were assessed before after weight loss (median percentage 29%, range 10-44%). The diagnostic criteria...
In the One Health context, Integrated Wildlife Monitoring (IWM) merges wildlife health monitoring (WHM) and host community to early detect emerging infections, record changes in disease dynamics, assess impact of interventions complex multi-host multi-pathogen networks. This study reports deployment results obtained from a nationwide IWM pilot test eleven sites representing habitat diversity mainland Spain. each site, camera-trap networks sampling indicator species for antibody biomarker...
We present photometry and spectroscopy of the afterglow GRB 030323. VLT spectra show damped Lyα (DLA) absorption low- high-ionization lines at a redshift . The inferred neutral hydrogen column density, , is larger than any (GRB- or QSO-) DLA density directly from in absorption. From photometry, we derive conservative upper limit to host-galaxy extinction: mag. iron abundance while metallicity gas as measured sulphur an on H2 molecular fraction In trough, emission line detected, which...
In order to carry out the translation into Spanish of Manual diagnostic tests and vaccines for terrestrial animals (mammals, birds bees) ensuring full scientific linguistic accuracy, its authors relied on coordination between three types experts: linguistic, translational veterinary. this paper planning, execution quality control such work, which was undertaken with support guarantee World Organisation Animal Health (OIE), is reported. conclusions describe what they view as necessary...
The concentrations of haptoglobin, C-reactive protein and ceruloplasmin were measured in symptomatic asymptomatic dogs naturally infected by Leishmania infantum, healthy uninfected to determine the potential value these proteins for diagnosis prognosis leishmaniasis. acute phase significantly higher with leishmaniasis than control dogs, concentration was dogs. There no correlations between gamma globulins, albumin/globulin ratio or titre anti-leishmanial antibodies.
The optical afterglow spectrum of GRB050401 (at z=2.8992+/-0.0004) shows the presence a DLA, with log(nHI)=22.6+/-0.3. This is highest column density ever observed in and about five times larger than strongest DLA detected so far any QSO spectrum. From spectrum, we also find very large Zn density, allowing us to infer an abundance [Zn/H]=-1.0+/-0.4. These columns are supported by X-ray from Swift-XRT which (in excess Galactic) log(nH)=22.21^{+0.06}_{-0.08} assuming solar abundances z=2.9)....
