Abstract. Quantitative evaluations of the impacts climate change on water resources are primarily constrained by uncertainty in projections from GCMs. In this study we assess river discharge two catchments Yangtze and Yellow River Basins that feature contrasting regimes (humid semi-arid). Specifically quantify associated with GCM structure a subset CMIP3 AR4 GCMs (HadCM3, HadGEM1, CCSM3.0, IPSL, ECHAM5, CSIRO, CGCM3.1), SRES emissions scenarios (A1B, A2, B1, B2) prescribed increases global...
The neutral beam injection (NBI) system was developed on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) for plasma heating and current driving. This paper presents brief history, design, development, main experimental results of R&D injector test bed EAST. In particular, it will describe: (1) how two beamlines with a total power 8 MW were developed; (2) design EAST-NBI including high ion source, vacuum chamber, inner components, diagnostic sub-system; (3) beamline-1 summer campaign...
Magnetic turbulence is observed at the beginning of current quench in intended TEXTOR disruptions. Runaway electron (RE) suppression has been experimentally found magnetic larger than a certain threshold. Below this threshold, generated RE inversely proportional to level turbulence. The originates from background plasma and amplitude depends strongly on toroidal field density. These results explain previously threshold for generation have be considered predictions ITER.
The mechanism governing the impact of mass isotope on plasma confinement is still one main scientific conundrums facing magnetic fusion community after more than thirty years intense research. We have investigated properties local turbulence and long-range correlations in hydrogen deuterium plasmas TEXTOR tokamak. Experimental findings shown a systematic increasing amplitude during transition from to dominated plasmas. These results provide first direct experimental evidence importance...
Abstract With high‐resolution data of the recently launched Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, we report a magnetic reconnection event at dayside magnetopause. This event, having density asymmetry N high / low ≈ 2 on two sides reconnecting current sheet and guide field B g 0.4 0 in “out‐of‐plane” direction, exhibit all two‐fluid features: Alfvenic plasma jets outflow region, bipolar Hall electric fields toward center, quadrupolar corresponding currents. Obviously, are not sufficient to...
In order to support the design, manufacture and commissioning of negative-ion-based neutral beam injection (NBI) system for Chinese Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR), Hefei utility negative ion test equipment with RF source (HUNTER) was proposed at ASIPP. A prototype will be developed first. The main bodies plasma accelerator are similar that EAST-NBI. But instead filament-arc driver, an driver is adopted fulfill requirement long pulse operation. cesium seeding a magnetic filter added...
Neutral beam injector for EAST is designed to deliver deuterium beams with a power of 2 MW 4 at an energy 50 keV 80 into the plasma dimension 12 cm × 48 cm. Considering generation and transmission, columniform beam-line Φ 250 400 neutralizer, ion dump, calorimeter, bending magnet cryopanels. The arrangement internal elements reported. A rectangular sleeve coupled source employed as neutralizer. At downstream dipole separates residual ions from passage reflection radius 42 full particles....
Gas puff imaging (GPI) [S. J. Zweben, D. P. Stotler et al., Phys. Plasmas 9, 1981 (2002); R. Maqueda, G. A. Wurden Rev. Sci. Instrum. 74, 2020 (2003)] is a powerful diagnostic that permits two-dimensional measurement of turbulence in the edge region fusion plasma and based on observation local emission neutral gas, actively puffed into periphery plasma. The developed in-vessel GPI telescope observes from gas along (at puff) magnetic field lines. specially designed to operate severe TEXTOR...
A high current ion source, which consists of the multi-cusp bucket plasma generator and tetrode accelerator with multi-slot apertures, is developed tested for Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak neutral beam injector. Three sources are on test bed arc power 80 kW, voltage keV, 4 MW. The regulation technology Langmuir probes employed long pulse operation 50 keV @ 15.5 100 s 52A 1s extracted, respectively.
Neutral beam injection is recognized as one of the most effective means for plasma heating. The preliminary data ion extraction obtained on EAST neutral injector test-stand. Beam from source EAST-NBI verified by measuring current with a Faraday cup and analyzing results water calorimetric measurement temperature rises cooling accelerator electrodes.
The experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST) is one of the fully tokamaks. A high-power neutral beam injector (NBI) system consisting two injectors (EAST-NBI) was employed on EAST for plasma heating and current driving. designed deuterium energy 50–80 keV, power 2–4 MW, duration 10–100 s. Each beamline equipped with hot cathode ion sources can be operated individually. In order to support planned physics research EAST, NBI-2 shifted from port F D, at same time, its injection...
An RF-driven negative-ion source development program has been started at ASIPP-Hefei with a small test equipment, Hefei utility negative ion equipment RF (HUNTER). It is devoted to some crucial issues of the source, such as improvement efficiency, enhancement extracted current density, and promotion beam qualities. In initial stage, HUNTER conservatively adopted similar structure ITER prototype developed IPP, Garching. consists single or double driver on back side plasma expansion chamber,...
The positive ion based source with a hot cathode arc chamber and tetrode accelerator was employed for neutral beam injector on the experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST). Four sources were developed each has produced 4 MW @ 80 keV hydrogen test bed. 100 s long pulse operation modulated also been tested upgraded from circular shaped to diamond in latest two sources. In campaign of EAST experiment, four injected more than deuterium energy 60 into EAST.
Neutral beam injection has been recognized as one of the most effective means for plasma heating. According to research plan EAST physics experiment, two sets neutral injectors (4–8 MW, 10–100 s) were built and operated in 2014. We present development injector (NBI) latest experiment results obtained on test-stand about operation ion source, extraction, measurement key parameters. Those show that all targets reach or almost design targets. All these lay a solid foundation achievement heating...
Abstract The plasma response to a resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) is experimentally measured on the TEXTOR tokamak using fast movable probe. It shown that, due response, field significantly differs from vacuum field. Clear linear and non-linear responses RMP are observed by varying intensity of these perturbations or edge safety factor. Both radial profile evolution dependence factor show stronger effect when rotates at 5 kHz in counter-current direction.
