Cardiac xenotransplantation from swine has been proposed to “bridge the gap” in supply for heart failure patients requiring transplantation. Recent preclinical success using genetically modified pig donors baboon recipients demonstrated survival greater than 6 mo, with a modern understanding of immunobiology and continued experience large animal models cardiac xenotransplantation. As direct result this expertise, Food Drug Administration approved first in-human transplantation engineered...

We examined readmissions and resource use during the first postoperative year in patients who underwent thoracic endovascular aortic repair or open surgical of Stanford type B dissection.
Central MessageJTCVS has partnered with the TSRA & TSMA to make a 7-part primer series introducing medical students CT Surgery. This, first installment, focuses on excelling in Adult Cardiac Surgery rotation.See Commentary page XXX. JTCVS rotation. Abstract Purpose: Publicly available health information is increasingly important for patients and their families. While the average US citizen reads at an 8 th -grade level, electronic educational materials families are often advanced. We assessed quality readability of publicly resources regarding hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). Methods: queried four search engines “hypoplastic syndrome”, “HLHS”, ventricle”. The top 30 websites from searches on Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Dogpile were...
ObjectiveWe determined the utilization rate of surgical ablation (SA) during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and compared outcomes between CABG with or without SA in a national cohort.MethodsThe January 2016 to December 2018 Nationwide Readmissions Database was searched for all patients undergoing isolated preoperative persistent chronic atrial fibrillation by using International Classification Diseases, 10th Revision classification. Propensity score matching multivariate logistic...
The association between chronic kidney disease and adverse outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting is well established; in contrast, the readmission has been less thoroughly investigated. We hypothesized that patients at higher stages have greater risk of readmission, poorer operative outcomes, hospitalization cost.Using 2016-2018 Nationwide Readmissions Database, we identified 519,387 who underwent isolated grafting. Patients were stratified by stage based on International...
Abstract There are 5.7 million people in the United States with heart failure, which is life-limiting 20% of patients. 1 While data most robust for this cohort, it known to be a global problem over 23 carrying diagnosis. For end-stage many require transplantation, however, there shortage supply organ donors. Cardiac xenotransplantation has been proposed “bridge gap” these patients requiring transplantation. Recent pre-clinical success using genetically modified pig donors baboon recipients...
Anomalous supravalvular mitral chordae tendineae that originate from the leaflet(s) and attach to interatrial septum or dome of left atrium are a rare congenital anomaly. These often associated with severe regurgitation surgical experience has included resection anomalous chord as part repair. We describe an unusual presentation incidentally discovered at time valve repair for degenerative related flail posterior leaflet. The did not contribute mechanism was therefore intact.
