Germline mutations of the tumour suppressor gene BRCA1 are involved in predisposition and development breast cancer account for 20–45% all hereditary cases. There is an increasing evidence that these tumours characterised by a specific phenotype pattern expression. We have hypothesised differences chemosensitivity might parallel molecular heterogeneity sporadic tumours. To this end, we investigated BRCA1-defective HCC1937 cell line, BRCA1-competent MCF-7 (hormone-sensitive) MDA-MB231...

Translocations involving c-myc and an Ig locus have been reported rarely in human multiple myeloma (MM). Using specific fluorescence situ hybridization probes, we show complex karyotypic abnormalities of the or L-myc 19 20 MM cell lines approximately 50% advanced primary tumors. These include unusual translocations insertions that often juxtapose myc with IgH IgL locus. For two tumors, some tumor cells contain a abnormality locus, whereas other do not, indicating this occurs as late event....

Do we identify an object as a whole or by its parts? This simple question has been surprisingly hard to answer. It suggested that faces are recognized wholes and words parts. Here answer the applying test for crowding. In crowding, target is harder in presence of nearby flankers. Previous work described crowding between objects. We show also occurs parts object. Such internal severely impairs perception, identification, fMRI face-area activation. apply diagnostic word face, find critical...

We tested the hypothesis that crowding effects are responsible for reading slowness characteristic of developmental dyslexia. A total twenty-nine Italian dyslexics and thirty-three age-matched controls participated in various parts study. In Experiment 1, we measured contrast thresholds identifying letters words as a function stimulus duration. Thresholds were higher than (at limited time exposure) but not single letters. Adding noise to stimuli produced comparable controls. At long exposure...

Abstract Vocal reaction times (RTs) in naming 3- to 8-letter words were measured proficient and dyslexic readers (Study 1). In readers, RTs independent of word length up 5-letter words, indicating parallel processing. the 5- range, increased linearly, sequential Reading experience was associated with both faster discrimination individual elements processing increasingly large parts. dyslexics, linearly increasing reliance on decoding. Individual analysis indicated 2 profiles (Types A B)....

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is a nuclear involved in such cellular processes as adipogenesis, inflammation, atherosclerosis, cell cycle control, apoptosis, and carcinogenesis. PPARγ gene mutations have been found 4 of 55 sporadic colon cancers, chimeric PAX8-PPARγ1 frequently generates chromosomal translocation thyroid follicular carcinomas, implicating tumor suppression. We investigated whether the growth regulation normal cells. no exons 3 5 human carcinoma lines...

The effect of age on pain sensitivity is unclear. Some studies suggest a loss perception with age, whereas other indicate either no change or an increase in age. present study assessed perceived intensities six levels painful contact thermal stimuli (43 °C, 45 47 48 49 and 51 °C). Magnitude estimation procedures were used, participants instructed to provide separate ratings for the sensory intensity unpleasantness (affective intensity) during sessions. Middle-age adults showed lowest...

Abstract The pathogenesis of multiple myeloma (MM) is thought to involve at least two pathways, which generate hyperdiploid (HRD) or nonhyperdiploid (NHRD) tumors, respectively. Apart from chromosome content, the pathways are distinguished by five primary immunoglobulin heavy chain ( IGH ) rearrangements (4p16, FGFR3 , and MMSET ; 6p21, CCND3 11q13, CCND1 16q23, MAF 20q12, MAFB that present mainly in NHRD tumors. Abstract We compared reading words and pseudo-words presented in single displays (as typical of psycholinguistic research) with stimuli multiple real-life conditions clinical testing) under controlled conditions. Italian sixth-grade children without a deficit showed an advantage times for over displays. This finding was partly ascribed to the capacity overlap non-decisional component response, effect present control readers as well dyslexia. Furthermore, there were several indications data...

The "Sign-tracker/Goal-tracker" (ST/GT) is an animal model of individual differences in learning and motivational processes attributable to distinctive conditioned responses environmental cues. While GT rats value the reward-predictive cue as a mere predictor, ST attribute it with incentive salience, engaging aberrant reward-seeking behaviors that mirror those impulse control disorders. Given its potential clinical value, present study aimed map such onto humans investigated resting state...
