This work presents a systematic study of cellulose (CLS) as sacrificial biomass for photocatalytic H2 evolution from water. The idea is indeed to couple largely available and not expensive biomass, water, with renewable energy like solar radiation. An aqueous CLS suspension irradiated either at 366 nm (UV-A) or under sunlight in the presence Pt/TiO2 behaves evolving system. effects irradiation time, catalyst concentrations, pH water salinity are studied. Addition sample significantly...
A series of luminescent rare-earth ion-doped hexagonal II-type Gd oxycarbonate phosphors Gd2–xRExO2CO3 (RE = Eu3+, Yb3+, Dy3+) have been successfully synthesized by thermal decomposition the corresponding mixed oxalates. The Yb3+ doped Gd-oxycarbonate has evidenced a high persistent luminescence in NIR region, that is independent from temperature and makes this materials particular attractive as optical probes for bioimaging.
The influence of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (pure anatase and 15% N doped anatase) on the growth Chlorella vulgaris, Haematococcus pluvialis, Arthrospira platensis was investigated. Results showed that pure can lead to a significant inhibition C. vulgaris A. (17.0 74.1%, resp.), while for H. pluvialis do not cause inhibition. Since in these stress conditions photosynthetic microorganisms produce antioxidant compounds order prevent cell damages, we evaluated polyphenols content either...
Abstract We report on ZnO nanoparticles‐polystyrene (PS) nanocomposites (NC) engineered to modify PS matrix permeability and refractive index (n), fabricate 1D all‐polymer photonic crystals (PC) for sensing applications. The new NC can be easily processed from solutions prepare high quality thin films by spin coating. nanoparticles (n = 1.98) have been synthetized solvothermal route grafted with a silane reduce phase segregation in the 1.58). Such procedure led an increase of about 1%. By...
The enhancement of the photocatalytic activity TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs), synthesized in presence a very small amount magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles, is here presented and discussed. From X-ray diffraction (XRD) differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses, crystallinity (NPs) seems to be affected by Fe3O4, acting as nano-seeds improve tetragonal anatase structure with respect amorphous one. Photocatalytic data, i.e., degradation methylene blue Ofloxacin fluoroquinolone emerging...
TiO2 sepiolite and zeolite composites, as well the corresponding N-doped synthesized through a sol–gel method, were tested for photocatalytic degradation of widespread fluoroquinolone antibiotic (ofloxacin) under environmental conditions. The catalysts characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) analyses. A complete drug occurred in 10–15 min presence both catalysts, 20–30 with ones....
The aim of this study was to assess the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa two nanoparticle endotracheal tube coatings with visible light-induced photocatalysis. Two types titanium dioxide nanoparticles were tested: standard anatase (TiO2) N-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2). Nanoparticles placed on internal surface a segment commercial tubes, which loaded cellulose acetate filter; control tubes left without coating. A bacterial inoculum 150 colony forming units...
We carried out a systematic study on the effect of nanocrystalline TiO2 paste formulations and temperature treatment performance dye solar cells (DSCs) over large range, to provide useful information for fabrication both plastic metal flexible devices. compared conventional screen-printable binder-free pastes with new formulation which includes hydroxylethyl cellulose (HEC), enabling organic materials in layer whole 25-600 °C range. Differently from where device efficiency rose monotonically...
Few studies have investigated the factors affecting aerosol delivery during non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Our aim was to investigate, using a bench-top model, effect of different ventilator settings and positions exhalation port nebulizer on amount albuterol delivered lung simulator. A model simulating spontaneous breathing connected single-limb NIV ventilator, set in bi-level positive airway pressure (BIPAP) with inspiratory/expiratory pressures 10/5, 15/10, 15/5, 20/10 cmH2O, or...
Gadolinium dioxycarbonates co-doped with different visible emitting lanthanides were synthesized via a co-precipitation method using oxalic acid as precipitating agent.
Nanosized titanium dioxide immobilized on silica gel was synthesized and used as fixed-bed phase for V(V) pre-concentration, followed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) analysis. Three different sorbents were prepared sol–gel method starting from a mixture of isopropoxide, 2-propanol water, characterized X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) BET V(V), the most stable toxic oxidation state element, present in water beverages...
Abstract Pure TiO 2 , N- and Cu-doped double-doped (Cu, N) samples were synthesized via sol–gel route in order to investigate the local average structure of crystalline under different pH conditions. Samples are mainly constituted anatase phase, even though low but significant amounts secondary brookite grew most samples. A detailed structural characterization was performed by means synchrotron X-ray elastic scattering experiments; data obtained Rietveld refinement, whereas insights about...
The aim of this work was to couple physical-chemical approaches with photocatalysis reduce by a simple, inexpensive way the organic load olive mill wastewater (OMW), mandatorily prior final discharge. Before irradiation, different sorbents were tested remove part fraction, monitored measuring chemical oxygen demand (COD) and polyphenols (PP). Different low-cost, safe materials tested, that is, Y zeolite (ZY), montmorillonite, sepiolite. Considerable decrease obtained, highest abatement (40%)...
