Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) offer a strategy to position molecular semiconductors within rigid network in highly controlled and predictable manner. The π-stacked columns of layered two-dimensional COFs enable electronic interactions between the COF sheets, thereby providing path for exciton charge carrier migration. Frameworks comprising two electronically separated subunits can form defined interdigitated donor–acceptor heterojunctions, which drive photogeneration free carriers. Here...
Abstract Capture of pharmaceutical pollutants from water was studied using a novel fluorine‐bearing covalent organic framework TpBD‐(CF 3 ) 2 , which showed ibuprofen adsorption capacity 119 mg g −1 at neutral pH. This value is further enhanced pH 2, highlighting the potential this class materials to serve as adsorbents even under harsh conditions. The adsorbed can be recovered in high yield, offering option recycling both adsorbent and pharmaceutical. efficiency capture compared other less...
Neural tissue engineering and three-dimensional in vitro modeling require the development of biomaterials that take into account specified requirements human neural cells tissue. In this study, an alternative method producing biomimetic hydrogels based on gellan gum (GG) was developed by replacing traditional crosslinking methods with bioamines spermidine spermine. These were proven to function as crosslinkers for GG hydrogel at +37 °C, allowing encapsulation neurons. We studied mechanical...
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are attractive materials receiving increasing interest in the literature due to their crystallinity, large surface area, and pore uniformity. Their properties can be tailored towards specific applications by judicious design of COF building blocks, giving access tailor-made sizes surfaces. In this Concept article, developments field COFs that have allowed these explored for contaminant adsorption discussed. Strategies obtain water-stable with highly ordered...
Facile synthesis of a recyclable magnetic covalent organic framework for the extraction lipophilic marine biotoxins.
Saxitoxin (STX), the most widely distributed neurotoxin in marine waters and emerging cyanotoxin of concern freshwaters, causes paralytic shellfish poisoning humans upon consumption contaminated shellfish. To allow for efficient monitoring this biotoxin, it is high importance to find high-affinity materials its adsorption. Herein, we report design synthesis a covalent organic polymer adsorption STX. Two β-keto-enamine-based were prepared by self-assembly 2,4,6-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp)...
In pocket: A new class of potent inhibitors factor Xa features a quaternary ammonium ion to fill the aromatic box in S4 pocket and 2-chlorothiophenyl group occupy S1 (see picture; red O, blue N, yellow S, green Cl). Changing from primary increases binding affinity by 1000. The poor former case suggests negligible cation–π interactions between Lys Trp.
Attractive intermolecular interactions of building blocks with strong dipole moments result in a COF high crystallinity and large surface area.
Microcystins (MCs), produced by Microcystis sp, are the most commonly detected cyanotoxins in freshwater, and due to their toxicity, worldwide distribution, persistence water, an improvement monitoring programs for early detection removal from water is necessary. To this end, we investigate performance of three covalent organic frameworks (COFs), TpBD-(CF3)2, TpBD-(NO2)2, TpBD-(NH2)2, adsorption common and/or toxic MC derivatives, MC-LR, MC-RR, MC-LA, MC-YR, water. While MC-LR MC-YR can be...
A three-component synthesis methodology is described for the formation of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) containing extended aromatics. Notably, this approach enables building blocks and COF along parallel reaction landscapes, on a similar timeframe. The use fragmental block components, namely pyrene dione diboronic acid as aggregation-inducing precursor diamines o-phenylenediamine (Ph), 2,3-diaminonaphthalene (Naph), or (1R,2R)-(+)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine (2Ph) extending...
Abstract Factor Xa, a serine protease from the blood coagulation cascade, is an ideal enzyme for molecular recognition studies, as its active site highly shape‐persistent and features distinct, concave sub‐pockets. We developed family of non‐peptidic, small‐molecule inhibitors with central tricyclic core orienting neutral heterocyclic substituent into S1 pocket quaternary ammonium ion aromatic box in S4 pocket. The substituents were systematically varied to investigate cation–π interactions...
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIO-PAA), ultrasmall (USPIO-PAA), and glucosamine-modified (USPIO-PAA-GlcN) were studied as mesenchymal stem cell (MSCs) labels for tracking applications by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Pronounced differences found in the labeling performance of three samples terms cellular dose efficiency. In combination with polylysine, SPIO-PAA showed nonhomogeneous internalization, while USPIO-PAA no uptake was found. On contrary, USPIO-PAA-GlcN featured...
In this work, a new analytical approach based on ultrasound-assisted dispersive (micro)solid phase extraction (US-D-μSPE) using TpBD-Me2 covalent organic framework (COF) as adsorbent for simple, rapid and selective fluorescent determination of two polycyclic synthetic fragrances in seawater, i.e., 1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethyl-cyclopenta-(γ)-2-benzopyran (HHCB), branded galaxolide®, 7-acetyl-1,1,3,4,4,6-hexamethyltetralin (AHTN), tonalide®, is proposed. Different parameters...
The targeted global decarbonization demands the urgent replacement of conventional fossil fuel with low carbon technologies. For instance, solar energy is abundant, inexhaustible, non-polluting, and low-priced; however, to produce on a large scale reliable, cost-efficient, environmentally friendly methods remains challenge. outstanding optical properties Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin film photovoltaics their intrinsic compatibility industrial-scale production are paving way towards this technology....
Ready-to-eat products, such as leafy greens, must be carefully controlled they are directly consumed without any treatment to reduce the presence of potential pathogens. Food industries, especially those that process products with short shelf-life, demand rapid detection foodborne pathogens Shiga Toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC). In this sense, molecular methods can fulfill both requirements turnaround time and consumer safety. The most popular based on real-time PCR (qPCR) however,...
