Abstract Background Reports of fluconazole-resistant Candida parapsilosis bloodstream infections are increasing. We describe a cluster C identified in 2021 on routine surveillance by the Georgia Emerging Infections Program conjunction with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Methods Whole-genome sequencing was used to analyze isolates. Epidemiological data were obtained from medical records. A social network analysis conducted using Hospital Discharge Data. Results Twenty isolates...

Abstract Objective Studies show that serum levels of 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), a biomarker for vitamin status, are lower in persons with higher adiposity and police officers have been found to high prevalence obesity. The purpose this study was examine relationships between several measures 25(OH)D, also compare those determine the best one predicts insufficiency 25(OH)D (<20 ng/mL) among Northeast area United States. Methods Participants were 281 (71.5% men) from Buffalo...

We evaluated healthcare facility use of International Classification Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes for culture-confirmed candidemia cases detected by active public health surveillance during 2019-2020. Most (56%) did not receive a candidiasis code, suggesting that studies relying on ICD-10 likely underestimate disease burden.

Background: Candida spp can cause a variety of infections known as candidiasis, ranging from severe invasive to superficial mucosal the mouth and vagina. Fluconazole, triazole antifungal, is commonly prescribed treat candidiasis but increasing fluconazole resistance growing concern for several spp. Although C. albicans has historically been most common other species are increasingly antifungal more prevalent in these non- species, including glabrata , parapsilosis tropicalis which were focus...

Candidemia is a common healthcare-associated infection with high mortality. Estimates of recurrence range from 1% to 17%. Few studies have focused on those recurrent candidemia, who often experience more severe illness and greater treatment failure. We describe candidemia trends risk factors. analyzed population-based surveillance data collected during 2011-2018. Persons >1 episode (defined as the 30-day period after positive Candida species) were classified having candidemia. compared...

Abstract Background Since 2020, outbreaks of fluconazole-resistant Candida parapsilosis (FR-CP) infections have proliferated around the world. An increase in FR-CP bloodstream (BSI) Atlanta metropolitan area 2021 was identified during routine surveillance through Georgia Emerging Infections Program supported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We describe genomic relatedness epidemiologic associations between resistant susceptible isolates. Methods Active laboratory-...

Abstract Objective The application of rapid, non‐operator‐dependent, non‐invasive cardiac output monitoring (COM) may provide early physiological information in ED patients with haemodynamic instability (HI). Our primary objective was to assess the feasibility measuring pre‐intervention (baseline) index (CI) and associated parameters. Methods We performed a prospective observational study adults shortly after presentation large university hospital tachycardia or hypotension both. applied COM...
