Congregate work and residential locations are at increased risk for infectious disease transmission including respiratory illness outbreaks. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), is primarily spread person to through droplets. Nationwide, meat poultry processing industry, an essential component of U.S. food infrastructure, employs approximately 500,000 persons, many whom in proximity other workers (1). Because reports initial cases COVID-19, some facilities, states...

Importance
Contact tracing is a multistep process to limit SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Gaps in the result missed opportunities prevent COVID-19.
Objective
To quantify proportions of cases and their contacts reached by public health authorities amount time needed reach them compare risk positive COVID-19 test between general during 4-week assessment periods.
Design, Setting, Participants
This cross-sectional study took place at 13 departments 1 Indian Health Service...
On March 24, 2020, the South Dakota Department of Health (SDDOH) was notified a case coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in an employee at meat processing facility (facility A) and initiated investigation to isolate identify quarantine contacts. April 2, when 19 cases had been confirmed among A employees, enhanced testing for SARS-CoV-2, virus that causes COVID-19, implemented, so any with COVID-19-compatible sign or symptom (e.g., fever, cough, shortness breath) could receive test from...
ABSTRACT Although herpes simplex virus, Epstein-Barr and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis are known causes of severe acute liver injury with or without failure, these diseases occur almost exclusively in immunocompromised elderly patients. We report a case an immunocompetent young man no medical history who presented subacute cough persistent fevers the setting penile chancre. He was found to have severely elevated chemistries subsequently diagnosed because disseminated virus type 1...
We describe the epidemiology of invasive group B streptococcal (GBS) disease among non-pregnant Alaska adults using statewide surveillance data. During 2004-2023, 880 cases GBS were reported for an age-adjusted annual incidence 9.1 (95% CI, 8.5-9.7) per 100,000 adults. Incidence increased 1.9-fold 1.6-2.2) between 2004-2013 and 2014-2023. Adults aged ≥65 years had a 4.4-fold higher risk compared to younger adults, 47% with diabetes. Healthcare providers should be aware populations at risk,...
The involvement of the ras oncogenes in tumorigenesis was investigated keratoacanthomas, which are benign and self-regressing skin tumors, both humans a corresponding animal model system. Keratoacanthomas were induced on rabbit ears by repeated applications 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene. About 60% tumor DNAs produced transformed foci after transfection into NIH 3T3 cells, all them transforming gene identified as H-ras Southern Northern (RNA) hybridization. Immunoprecipitation experiments...
Abstract Background Adults aged ≥65 years, adults with certain underlying medical conditions, and persons experiencing homelessness are at increased risk for invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). Two new conjugate vaccines, 15-valent vaccine (PCV15) 20-valent (PCV20), were recently approved use in US adults. We describe the epidemiology of IPD among Alaska estimate proportion cases potentially preventable by vaccines. Methods used statewide, laboratory-based surveillance data to calculate...
Abstract The 2020 Sturgis motorcycle rally resulted in widespread transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 across the United States. At least 649 disease 2019 cases were identified, including secondary and tertiary spread to close contacts. To limit transmission, persons attending events should be vaccinated or wear masks practice physical distancing if unvaccinated. Persons with a known exposure managed according their vaccination prior infection status may include...
Classroom layout plays a central role in maintaining physical distancing as part of multicomponent prevention strategy for safe in-person learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted school investigation to assess layouts and classroom settings with without in-school SARS-CoV-2 transmission.
Streptococcus pneumoniae can co-infect persons who have viral respiratory tract infections. However, research on S. infections that are temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 is limited. We described the epidemiology and clinical course of patients had invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in Alaska, USA, during January 1, 2020-December 23, 2021. Of 271 laboratory-confirmed IPD, 55 (20%) a positive test result. observed no major differences age, race, sex, or underlying medical conditions among...
To determine prevalence of, seroprevalence and potential exposure to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) among a cohort of evacuees returning the United States from Wuhan, China, in January 2020, we conducted cross-sectional study quarantined 1 repatriation flight. Overall, 193 195 completed surveys submitted upper or serum specimens both at arrival States. Nearly all had taken preventive measures limit while none detectable SARS-CoV-2 tract specimens, suggesting...
OBJECTIVES American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) infants historically experienced a disproportionate burden of invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease, especially early in life. PedvaxHIB vaccine is preferentially recommended for AI/AN because it elicits protective antibody levels postdose 1. Vaxelis, hexavalent that contains the same Hib conjugate as but at lower concentration, US children, 1 immunogenicity data are needed to inform whether preferential recommendation...
Abstract We used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to identify bacterial infections in culture-negative pleural fluid specimens from Alaska Native children hospitalized with empyema. PCR identified ≥1 organism 11 (79%) of 14 specimens. Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3 was detected six specimens; all participants had received 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.
Abstract Background In early 2020, an outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 occurred among passengers and crew the Diamond Princess cruise ship. During February 16–17, some US citizens, residents, their partners voluntarily repatriated to from Japan. Methods We conducted a retrospective, longitudinal evaluation travelers where outcome interest was positive test for SARS-CoV-2. Travelers who tested SARS-CoV-2 were isolated in hospitals or at home under county isolation orders underwent serial...
