Abstract Bees play a key role in pollination of crops and diverse ecosystems. There have been multiple reports recent years illustrating bee population declines worldwide. The search for more accurate forecast models can aid both the understanding regular behavior adverse situations that may occur with bees. It also lead to better management utilization bees as pollinators. We address an investigation Recurrent Neural Networks task forecasting bees’ level activity taking into account...

Abstract Determining bee flight capacity is crucial for developing management strategies conservation and/or crop pollination and purposes. In this study, we determined the distance of stingless Melipona fasciculata using radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology. For this, conducted two translocation experiments workers equipped with RFID microsensors: (1) release bees at seven distances between 100 3000 m from experimental colonies in Belém, Brazil, (2) six 1500 10,000 Carajás...

Bees play a key role in ecosystem services as the main pollinators of numerous flowering plants. Studying factors influencing their foraging behavior is relevant not only to understand biology, but also how populations might respond changes habitat and climate. Here, we used radio-frequency identification tags monitor neotropical stingless bee Melipona fasciculata with special interest drifting patterns i.e., when forager drifts into foreign nest. In addition, collected meteorological data...

This paper proposes a method to address misreadings and consequent inadequacy of radio-frequency identification data for social insect monitoring. Six-month worth field experiment were collected demonstrate the application method. The are transformed into linear combination Gaussian model curve-fitted using an evolutionary algorithm. results show that proposed allows us improve quality infer honey bee behavior at colony level.

Abstract Bee flight capacity determines the area that a colony can exploit, and this knowledge is essential to formulate management conservation strategies for each species. In study, we evaluated of Melipona seminigra using radio frequency identification (RFID). Three questions were addressed: Do RFID tags affect M. workers? What effect landscape on foraging activity? Does time since was re-established range foragers? Our results indicate tag used does not ability . Bees marked with...

Bees are agents of nature that help provide about one third the food we eat through a process called pollination. The primary aim this work is to classify bee species and was achieved by employing different feature vectors machine learning algorithms for gathering foraging pattern data, with radio frequency electronic tags glued bees' thoraxes. Each time entered or left hive, timestamp stored. data were analyzed in series format, which activities grouped into categories. Random Forest...

Accurate identification of locomotives' position in large freight trains is important due to maintenance and management aspects. Current solutions employ RFIDs, image cameras or GPS, while the first two are expensive, third not an off-the-shelf hardware for all locomotives. In this paper we investigate a data driven solution automatically identify trains. We take into account alone (that gather instant fuel consumption) seeking less expensive solution. evaluate different machine learning...

Railways provide a transport system which is regarded as efficient but not immune of risks. The railway environment also subject to extreme weather conditions including high temperatures, constant exposure the sun, rainfall and wind. In addition, since it traverses several regions where there no mobile phone coverage, communication possible between trains people through central system. Thus, worth considering if development technological solutions increase safety employees who do maintenance...
