Since determining experimentally a wide variety of thermophysical properties—even for very small portion the already known room temperature ionic liquids (and their mixtures and solutions)—is an impossible goal, it is imperative that reliable predictive methods be developed. In turn, these might offer us clues to understanding underlying ion–ion ion–molecule interactions. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, one most thoroughly investigated liquids, together with water, greenest...

Molar enthalpies of vaporization, a homologous series 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethyl sulfonyl)imides, [Cnmim][NTf2], (with 2 ≤ n 8) were directly determined for the first time. The results obtained in this study emphasize and constitute clear experimental support novel concept that these liquid salts are composed polar nonpolar domains; is, they exhibit microphase segregation.

Excess molar volumes of six binary mixtures composed two ionic liquids the 1-methyl-3-alkyl-imidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide family([Cmmim] + [Cnmim])[NTf2] with n and m ranging from 2 to 10were measured for several compositions at 298 333 K. Similarly, three other systems containing [C4mim]+ (1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium) as a common cation have been studied: [C4mim]([NTf2] [PF6]), [BF4]) [C4mim]([BF4] [PF6]). Thus, mixing process distinct ions equal sign embedded in constant...

Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS) experiments showed that when aprotic ionic liquids vaporize under pressure and temperature conditions similar to those of a reduced-pressure distillation, the gas phase is composed discrete anion-cation pairs. The evolution spectrometric signals recorded during fractional distillations binary liquid mixtures allowed us monitor changes gas-phase composition relative volatility components. In addition, we have studied...

The influence of the cation's central atom in behavior pairs ammonium- and phosphonium-based ionic liquids was investigated through measurement densities, viscosities, melting temperatures, activity coefficients at infinite dilution, refractive indices, toxicity against Vibrio fischeri. All properties are affected by nature, with ammonium-based presenting higher enthalpies. Activity dilution show to present slightly for non-polar solvents, becoming lower polar suggesting that somewhat...
