We have measured the electron intersubband relaxation time due to emission of longitudinal-optical (LO) phonons in GaAs-AlGaAs quantum wells using time-resolved anti-Stokes Raman scattering. When energy separation subbands is greater than LO phonon we find lifetime electrons n=2 level be \ensuremath{\le}1 ps which excellent agreement with theoretical calculations two-dimensional electron-phonon interactions.

Oxygen saturation determined by pulse oximetry was monitored in 152 pediatric surgical patients divided into two groups. In one group, the oximeter data and alarms were available (N = 76) to anesthesia team, and, other these unavailable 76). A trained observer recorded all intraoperative hypoxic episodes informed team of major events (i.e., oxygen less than or equal 85% for greater 30 s) (PaO2 approximately 52 mmHg). Thirty-five occurred: 24 11 group (P 0.021). number occurred children 2 yr...

This single-blind study examined four levels of monitoring in 402 pediatric cases. Patients were randomly assigned to one groups: 1) oximeter and capnograph; 2) only oximeter; 3) or 4) neither nor capnograph data available the anesthesia team. An anesthesiologist, not involved patient care, observed all cases continuously recorded hemoglobin oxygen saturation (Spo2), ECG, expired CO2, plethysmographic output. Mean age, weight, ASA physical status, airway management (mask endotracheal tube),...

Allergen immunotherapy can desensitize even subjects with potentially lethal allergies, but the changes induced in T cells that underpin successful remain poorly understood. In a cohort of peanut-allergic participants, we used allergen-specific T-cell sorting and single-cell gene expression to trace transcriptional "roadmap" individual CD4+ throughout immunotherapy. We found induces expand shift toward an "anergic" Th2 phenotype largely absent both pretreatment participants healthy controls....

Optical spectra of high-transition-temperature superconductors in the mid-infrared display a gap in-plane conductivity whose role for superconductivity remains unresolved. Femtosecond measurements reflectivity YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) after nonequilibrium optical excitation are used to demonstrate ultrafast fill-in this and reveal two constituents: picosecond recovery superconducting condensate underdoped optimally doped material and, YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta), an additional subpicosecond component...

Femtosecond time-resolved spectrocopy has been used to investigate electronic excitations contributing the superconducting gap function $\ensuremath{\Delta}(\ensuremath{\omega},T)$ in ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}{\mathrm{O}}_{7\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\delta}}$. The optical response is strongly peaked at 1.5 eV, and contains two distinct components: one with a characteristic relaxation time of $\ensuremath{\sim}5\mathrm{ps}$, whose amplitude displays two-fluid-like temperature...

Summary.— Data concerning 155 patients with all types of generalized pustular psoriasis have been reviewed. Generalized Yon Zumbusch type is a severe disease. Thirty‐four 106 followed up died. In 26 these, death was attributable to the disease or its treatment. G.P.P. developing from acral pustulosis (acrodermatitis continua) has worst prognosis and likely prove fatal. evolving ordinary, palmo‐plantar atypical fiexural forms better may remit spontaneously. The use steroids systemically for...

Some crystals with the fluorite structure, e.g. CaF 2 , SrF BaF SrCl and PbF are known to exhibit a specific heat anomaly at temperatures T c well below melting point. It is generally assumed that this associated development of extensive disorder in anion sublattice. To study we have carried out polarized Raman scattering investigations these temperature range 4-1420 K. Fluorite one Raman-active phonon 2g symmetry.
