Abstract A 12‐month double‐blind trial of carbamazepine vs lithium, given as sole treatment for the prophylaxis bipolar affective disorder, was carried out in 31 patients. Of 600 patients treated with the dopamine agonist drugs bromocriptine and lisuride for functioning pituitary tumours, eight developed drug related psychoses. In a series of thirty-six patients treated with clozapine we report four cases who developed upper gastrointestinal symptoms suggestive reflux oesophagitis within 6 weeks starting this drug.
