Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is characterized by gait disturbance, dementia and /or urinary incontinence, dilation of the ventricular system opening cerebrospinal fluid pressure. Shunt surgery standard treatment iNHP. Diversions with programmable valves are recommended, once drainage can be changed. However, well-defined protocols still lack guiding steps to attain proper for each patient. Methods: In our study, we reported experience shunting 24 patients iNPH using...

Ventricular neuroendoscopy represents an important advance in the treatment of hydrocephalus. High-power (surgical) Nd:YAG laser and low-level therapy (using 685-nm-wavelength diode laser) have been used conjunction with favorable results. This study evaluated use surgical 980-nm-wavelength for neuroendoscopic ventricular diseases.Nine patients underwent a procedure 980-nm laser. Complications follow-up were recorded.Three in-hospital postoperative complications recorded (1 intraventricular...

We considered cut-off value 150 mg/dL to define hyperglycemia.A total 340 were included and 60 (17.6%) had admission hyperglycemia. Patients with craniocervical junction malformations (CCJM) tend to suffer more frequently from sleep respiratory disturbances, which are frequent and severe in patients basilar invagination. Here we evaluate if CCJM disorders (SRD) present smaller airway dimensions than without SRD.Patients CCCM disturbances were evaluated clinically by Bindal's score, modified Mallampati classification, full-night polysomnography upper cone beam tomography.Eleven had (SRD), nine performed control group SRD....

Objective Programmable valves provide an equal or superior neurological outcome when compared with fixed pressure ones, fewer complications, in treating idiopathic normal hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients. Long-term costs of these treatments have not been properly literature. We sought to compare costs, efficacy, and safety 1-year treatment iNPH patients programmable valve Sphera Pro a valve.

Abstract Introduction Reoperations are a common scenario among glioma patients. There is crescent evidence of its benefit in low- and high-grade gliomas. Here we discuss our experience with inert expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) dura substitute surgeries. Technical note We generally put the ePTFE below patient, even if it intact. This membrane should be sutured place using tension-free technique, 4-0 polypropylene. Expanded minimizes tissue attachment fibrosis when performing...
