Abstract In this report, we propose a simple way how considerably improve the performance of gas stripper setup at GSI Universal Linear Accelerator (UNILAC) in Germany. our proposed approach, replace inside main chamber current nozzle and short windowless storage cell (for pulsed jet operation mode) with conical diverging combined catcher tube placed on axis some distance downstream from exit. As result, background pressure differentially pumped adjacent vacuum chambers UNILAC dramatically...

Slow radioactive ion beams have been produced with an overall efficiency of 4% by thermalizing energetic ions a projectile fragment separator in He-gas cell and guiding them to vacuum vessel dc rf fields. Space charge was observed limiting effect. Since the ionization He atoms creates region high space charge, many thermalized interest are pushed toward walls gas cell. Such losses investigated for different incoming intensities.

Here we propose a simple way in which one can considerably improve performance of the gas stripper setup at GSI UNILAC. To do so, it will be enough to replace inside main chamber present nozzle and short windowless storage cell (for pulsed gas-jet operation mode) by conical diverging combined with catcher tube placed on axis some distance downstream exit. As result, background pressure differentially pumped adjacent vacuum chambers UNILAC dramatically reduce, make possible achieve required...

Abstract Laser ablation opens a material-independent method to produce ions from transition metals for laser spectroscopy. To overcome some drawbacks of this process, an ion source is under development at TU Darmstadt. A distinctive feature that are produced via in presence helium buffer gas where they stop and cool the process their collisions with atoms then extracted by flow into low-pressure conditions through supersonic nozzle. The compact RF-only funnel guide placed on axis behind...

A supersonic gas‐jet target apparatus that have been prepared to study elementary processes of antiprotonic atoms formation using monoenergetic ultra‐slow antiproton beams is described. We investigated an operation this with cryogenically cooled nozzle by both gas dynamic simulations and jet measurements. In result, the helium density 2⋅1012 atoms/cm3 has obtained. For considerable increasing density, a qualitative modification present setup suggested. The goal can be achieved use pulsed...

A focused ion beam source of a new type is suggested for the first time. The original design this based on using both laser ablation and an advanced buffer gas cooling technique. Operation has been studied by means computer experiments. For purpose, detailed dynamic simulations solution full system time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations have performed conical supersonic nozzle having inner tube axis novel RF-funnel extraction system. results calculations were used microscopic Monte Carlo...
