To learn about the molecular etiology of strabismus, we are studying genetic basis 'congenital fibrosis extraocular muscles' (CFEOM). These syndromes characterized by congenital restrictive ophthalmoplegia affecting muscles in oculomotor and trochlear nerve distribution. Individuals with classic form CFEOM born bilateral ptosis infraducted globes. When all affected members a family have CFEOM, classify as CFEOM1 pedigree. We previously determined that gene maps to FEOM1 locus on chromosome...

We previously reported that transplantation (Tx) of prevascularized donor islets as composite islet-kidneys (IK) reversed diabetic hyperglycemia in both miniature swine and baboons. In order to enhance this strategy's potential clinical applicability, we have now combined approach with hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) Tx an attempt induce tolerance nonhuman primates. IKs were prepared by isolating from 70% partial pancreatectomies injecting them beneath the autologous renal capsule five rhesus...

We have previously demonstrated that long-term tolerance (LTT) of an MHC class-I mismatched renal allograft can be achieved with a short course cyclosporine. In order to examine regulatory mechanisms underlying in this model, we assessed the contributions factors within graft and peripheral blood for their relative roles maintenance stable tolerance. Twelve LTT recipients primary kidneys were subjected treatment consisting donor-specific transfusion followed by leukapheresis, remove...

An 87-year-old woman on oral prednisolone was diagnosed with a cholecystoduodenal fistula (CDF) caused by cytomegalovirus-associated duodenal ulcer (DU) and managed conservatively. A CDF DU is extremely rare. Although surgical repair recommended for the treatment of cholecystolithiasis, appropriate remains controversial. This case report suggests that conservative feasible in absence DU-associated complications, such as an untreatable hemorrhage or obstruction; this finding compatible...
