Generally repressed by epigenetic mechanisms, retrotransposons represent around 40% of the murine genome. At Agouti viable yellow (Avy) locus, an endogenous retrovirus (ERV) intracisternal A particle (IAP) class retrotransposed upstream agouti coat-color providing alternative promoter that is variably DNA methylated in genetically identical individuals. This results variable expressivity coat color inherited transgenerationally. Here, a systematic genome-wide screen identifies multiple...

Micelles, worm-like micelles and vesicles were prepared from poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(caprolactone) block copolymersvia a solvent switch method, characterised by light scattering, X-ray scattering cryo-transmission electron microscopy. The volume fraction of ethylene oxide, as the hydrophilic part in these polymers, determined morphology dilute solution, with spherical micelles, precipitate being formed decreased. mechanism which systems during sequential dilution initial THF-rich...

Abstract Chitosan hydrogels have been investigated as potential vehicles for targeted drug delivery. The gels were permanently crosslinked with conventional crosslinking agent, glutaraldehyde and the naturally occurring non‐toxic agent genipin in both monomer polymerised states. swelling behaviour of all was highly pH dependent. lowest crosslink density not only had an increased rate diffusion but also total release. It is shown that by altering type degree a chitosan hydrogel it possible to...

The key to the use of polymersomes as effective molecular delivery systems is in ability design processing routes that can efficiently encapsulate payload. We have evaluated various surface rehydration mechanisms for encapsulation, each case characterizing morphologies formed using DLS and confocal microscopy well determining encapsulation efficiency hydrophilic dye Rhodamine B. In contrast bulk methods, where efficiencies are low, we find higher be obtained by thin films. relate these...

The naturally occurring cross-linking agent genipin has recently been the subject of biomedical research both in creation hydrogel structures and as a potential active its own right. In this study several methods specimen preparation were used to isolate stabilize crystalline material. thermodynamic properties crystals their phase changes investigated using differential scanning calorimetry techniques. Single crystal powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed two separate polymorphic phases...

Background Monoclonal free light chain (LC) proteins are present in the circulation of patients with immunoproliferative disorders such as (AL) amyloidosis and multiple myeloma (MM). Light chain-associated amyloid is a complex pathology composed proteinaceous fibrils extracellular matrix found all AL ~10–30% who presented MM. Amyloid deposits systemically organs tissues leading to dysfunction ultimately death. The overall survival worse than for those early stage Methods findings We have...

To determine if a short cervical length (CL) by transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS) in women who present with threatened preterm labour (TPTL) but deliver at term predicts small-for-gestational age (SGA) neonates or adverse perinatal outcome. This retrospective cohort study included singleton gestations underwent TVUS assessment of CL between 16 and 30 weeks' gestation for TPTL, delivered term(≥37 gestation), March 2006 to Dec 2015. Comparison was had (<2.5 cm) those normal (≥2.5 cm)....

Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion (TRAP) sequence affects 1% of monochorionic twins and 3% triplets. Acardius acephalus, acardius amorphous, acormus anceps have been described. In the (9% cases) fetal head body are differentiated. A 28 y.o. woman, G1P0 was referred at 14 weeks gestation with a triamniotic triplet pregnancy complicated by demise 3; fetus appeared fully formed marked cystic hygroma no heartbeat. At 18 there significant increase in size, hydrops Doppler perfusion into TRAP...

The authors describe an experiment developed recently in undergraduate laboratory to measure the Zeeman splitting of ground state atomic rubidium. An optical pumping technique is employed and magnetic field calibrated by using free-electron spin resonance. Multiphoton absorption power broadening transitions are also investigated a number quantum principles introduced experimentally.
