Ellagic acid (EA), an antioxidant polyphenolic constituent of plant origin, has been reported to possess diverse pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and immunomodulatory activities. This work aimed clarify the skin anti-photoaging properties EA in human dermal fibroblasts. The activity was evaluated by analyzing reactive oxygen species (ROS), matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), total glutathione (GSH) superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels as well cell viability...
The EtOH extract of gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides Ellis) fruits was previously found to possess potent anti-angiogenic activity in the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Bioassay-guided fractionation and purification yielded an active compound, which determined be iridoid glucoside, geniposide, by spectral analyses. Geniposide showed a dose-dependent manner. It also exhibited inhibitory effect range 25 - 100 μM on growth transformed NIH3T3 cell line.
Agastache rugosa (Fisch. & C.A.Mey.) Kuntze (Korean mint) is used to treat diverse types of human disorders in traditional medicine. In recent years, its non-fermented leaf extract (ARE) has been shown possess protective properties against ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation-induced photooxidative stress. The present work aimed examine whether probiotic bacterial fermentation would potentiate the skin anti-photoaging activity ARE or not, by comparing and corresponding fermented (ARE-F) UV-B...
The Escherichia coli K-12 trxA gene, the gene encoding thioredoxin, has been cloned and sequenced. DNA sequence includes 280 base pairs upstream 46 downstream of coding region. contains -35 region promoter rho gene. Northern analysis mRNA S1 nuclease mapping indicate presence two promoters for Initiation from either results in an containing potential translation initiation codons, one which could initiate synthesis a protein 18 amino acids longer than mature product. 3' end including last...
Abstract This study aimed to elucidate some novel pharmacological activities of Lonicera japonica (Caprifoliaceae), which is widely used in Oriental folk medicine. The ethanolic extract L. (LJ) dose dependently inhibited chick chorioallantoic membrane angiogenesis. antinociceptive activity LJ was assessed using the acetic acid-induced constriction model mice. showed anti-inflammatory two in-vivo models: vascular permeability and air pouch models. suppressed production nitric oxide via...
Ginsenosides, also known as ginseng saponins, are responsible for most pharmacological effect of ginseng. Ginsenoside Rb1 (Rb1) exerts a variety properties, including anti-inflammatory, antistress, anti-aging and anti-neurodegenerative activities. The aim the present work was to assess skin anti-photoaging properties in human dermal keratinocyte HaCaT cells. activity evaluated by analyzing levels reactive oxygen species (ROS) matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) well cell viability cells under...
To clarify the enzymatic property of Escherichia coli periplasmic thiol peroxidase (p20), specific activity toward peroxides was compared with other bacterial peroxidases. p20 has most substrate preference and organic hydroperoxide. Furthermore, exerted potent lipid activity. Despite that mutation caused highest susceptibility hydroperoxide heat stress, cellular level did not respond to exposure oxidative stress. Expression during anaerobic growth sustained at approximately 50% aerobic...
Escherichia coli mutants defective in the fip gene contain reduced levels of thioredoxin activity. F' derivatives trxA failed to support f1 growth, although suppressors an amber mutation restored both activity and Fip+ phenotype. Plasmids carrying phenotype strains.
The gene encoding thioredoxin in Anabaena sp. strain PCC 7119 was cloned Escherichia coli based on the strategy that similarity between two thioredoxins would be reflected both sequence and functional cross-reactivity. DNA restriction fragments containing were identified by heterologous hybridization to E. following Southern transfer, ligated with pUC13, used transform an lacking thioredoxin. Transformants complemented trxA mutation increased colony size confirmed enzyme assay. Expression of...
Abstract The ethanol extract of gardenia fruit ( Gardenia jasminoides Ellis), a Chinese herbal medicine, and its successive hexane, ethyl acetate, n ‐butanol aqueous fractions were evaluated for their antiangiogenic activities using chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. fraction was found to be most effective in the Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
This work aimed to assess some pharmacological activities of coenzyme Q(10) (CoQ(10)) in animal experimental models. The chick chorioallantoic membrane assay was used evaluate anti-angiogenic activity CoQ(10). Anti-inflammatory CoQ(10) confirmed using two models inflammation. These were the vascular permeability and air pouch models, acute sub-acute inflammation, respectively. Antinociceptive assessed by acetic acid-induced abdominal constriction response.CoQ(10) dose-dependently displayed...
