The South China landmass has been characterized by a complex geological history, including mountain lifting, climate changes, and river capture/reversal events. To determine how this complexity influenced the landmass's phylogeography, our study examined phylogeography of Garra orientalis, cyprinid widely distributed in China, using sequences from mitochondrial DNA control region cytochrome b gene (1887 bp) polymorphisms thirteen microsatellite loci. In total, 157 specimens were collected...
The large yellow croaker, Larimichthys crocea , was once the most abundant and economically important marine fish in China. Thus far, it has also been successful mariculture species However, its wild stock severely declined 1970s because of overexploitation, therefore hatchery release carried out for enhancement since 2000. As a migratory fish, croaker divided into three geographical stocks according to ambiguous morphological biological characteristics early documents. To investigate...
ABSTRACT Orange‐spotted groupers ( Epinephelus coioides ) are commercially important fish species that inhabit coral reef areas and distributed across tropical coastal regions throughout the Indo‐West Pacific Oceans. This study aims to assess phylogeographic structure of E. by analyzing 180 individuals collected from six locations along coast mainland China Hainan Island, using mitochondrial Cyt b gene 17 microsatellite DNA markers. The analysis revealed high haplotype diversity (0.882),...
Phylogeographical analyses on Squalidus argentatus samples from thirteen localities within mainland China and Taiwan were conducted for biogeographic studies, as their dispersal strictly depends geological evolution of the landmasses. A total 95 haplotypes genotyped mtDNA cyt b gene in 160 specimens nine river systems. Relatively high levels haplotype diversity (h = 0.984) low nucleotide (π 0.020) detected S. argentatus. Two major phylogenetic groups, B, revealed via analysis. The degree...
Summary Background The patatin‐like phospholipase 3 ( PNPLA 3) rs738409 gene polymorphism is an important genetic determinant of non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease NAFLD ). However, the associations between fat and metabolic traits in G allele carriers allelic influence on this association have not been fully studied. Aim To investigate with serum factors carotid atherosclerosis. Methods Liver was measured by quantitative ultrasound 4300 subjects Shanghai Changfeng community analysed for its...
Abstract Despite concerns about overfishing and the potential impact of release programs on wild populations, our study 3116 individuals from 13 populations 2787 two cultured in Zhejiang Fujian provinces spanning 2008 to 2023 reveals a relatively stable genetic diversity Larimichthys crocea . Surprisingly, large yellow croaker has remained consistent over years, suggesting minimal influence population declines due overfishing. With exception Sansha Bay Luoyuan Bay, no significant differences...
Mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b sequences (1140 bp) in 61 specimens of Chinese spiny loach Cobitis sinensis from 12 drainages Taiwan were identified as two major clades, exhibiting a southern and northern distribution, north TzengWen south (including TzengWen), respectively. The divergence time between these phylogroups was estimated at 7·34–9·06 million years before present ( b.p. ), but formed c. 3·41–4·23 2·22–2·75 M , Moreover, geological events have been recalculated that Island emerged...
In this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of Sicyopterus japonicus (Perciformes, Gobiidae). This consists 16,514 base pairs (bp), with 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA 22 transfer and 1 non-coding control region (CR), also gene synteny identical to that typical vertebrates. CR, 843 bp in length, is located between tRNA(Pro) tRNA(Phe). The overall composition heavy strand shows T 26.1%, C 28.7%, A 28.3%, G 16.91%, a slight AT bias 54.4%.
We examined the genetic variation and phylogeographic relationships among 10 populations of Lunella granulata from mainland China, Penghu Archipelago, Taiwan Island, Japan using mitochondrial COI 16S markers. A total 45 haplotypes were obtained in 112 specimens, relatively high levels haplotype diversity (h = 0.903) low nucleotide (π 0.0046) detected. Four major phylogenetic lineage clusters revealed concordant with their geographic distribution, agreeing network. These results suggested...
To comprehend the phylogeographic patterns of genetic variation in anurans at Taiwan Island, this study attempted to examine (1) existence various geological barriers (Central Mountain Ranges, CMRs); and (2) Bufo bankorensis using mtDNA sequences among populations located different regions Taiwan, characterized by climates existing under extreme conditions when compared available related species B. gargarizans mainland China.Phylogenetic analyses dataset with mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) D-loop...
Whole mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b sequences in 62 fish from 13 locations Southeast China identified two major clades corresponding to allopatric taxa, Glyptothorax fokiensis and hainanensis . Reciprocal monophyly a molecular clock separation between these taxa of 2·3 million years indicate should be elevated species. Mismatch distributions Fu’s F S statistic suggest that both G. have experienced recent population expansions. Analysis variance indicates most the genetic variation resides...
Abstract Little has been known about the impacts of past vicariance events on phylogeography and population structure freshwater fishes in East Asia. The aims this study are to assess genetic variability with extensive sampling throughout range Chinese spiny loach, Cobitis sinensis, andto infer evolutionary history populations. sinensis China may have initiated from two ancestral populations, namely Yangtze Pearl Rivers, which diverged 7.24 MYA likely due drainage systems alteration. In...
Effective conservation of ecosystems requires deep knowledge concerning multiple aspects biodiversity including alpha and beta components species richness, taxonomic, functional diversity, as well their relationships. The taxonomic α-diversity positively correlated to richness evolution exceeded differentiation. We divided the Yangtze whole basin into 56 units, then information on fish composition distribution in each unit was revised. Results showed that diversity strongly driven by...
Geological events and landscape features, as well changes in the climate during Pliocene period, have shaped distribution of genetic diversity demographic history freshwater fish mainland China. In this study, we investigated phylogeny population structure Acrossocheilus species (A. fasciatus, A. kreyenbergii wenchowensis) Zhejiang region by mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt-b) control (D-loop) s. Mitochondrial phylogenetic analysis revealed three major lineages (lineages A, B C), which may...
Aphyocypris kikuchii is a cyprinid species endemic to northern and eastern Taiwan the only primary freshwater fish native east of Coastal Mountain Range. In total, 92 individuals A. from seven populations in three regions island were surveyed for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation. High haplotype diversity ( h = 0·989) low nucleotide π 0·009) mtDNA detected. Negative values Tajima’s D unimodal mismatch distributions probably reflect history recent demographic expansions small populations....
In this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of Scaphiodonichthys acanthopterus (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae). This genome, consisting 16,612 base pairs (bp), encoded genes for 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer and one non-coding control region as those found in other vertebrates, with gene order identical to that typical vertebrates. The region, 941 bp length, is located between tRNA Pro Phe . overall composition heavy strand shows T 25.23%, C 26.85%, A...
Abstract Over the past century, stock identification, which is crucial for fisheries assessments, has relied heavily on intraspecies variations to differentiate management units. In recent years, however, DNA approaches have shed additional light some aspects of natural history and ecology species stocks. The Crescent Grunter Terapon jarbua widely distributed across Indo‐Pacific region. It inhabits coastal waters with sandy substrates tends aggregate in estuaries. present study, we collected...
