An indirect-drive inertial fusion experiment on the National Ignition Facility was driven using 2.05 MJ of laser light at a wavelength 351 nm and produced 3.1±0.16 total yield, producing target gain G=1.5±0.1 exceeding unity for first time in laboratory [Phys. Rev. E 109, 025204 (2024)10.1103/PhysRevE.109.025204]. Herein we describe experimental evidence increased drive capsule additional energy control over known degradation mechanisms, which are critical to achieving high performance....

We have studied frustrated kagome arrays and unfrustrated honeycomb of magnetostatically-interacting single-domain ferromagnetic islands with magnetization normal to the plane. The measured pairwise spin correlations both lattices can be reproduced by models based solely on nearest-neighbor correlations. array has qualitatively different magnetostatics but identical lattice topology previously-studied 'artificial ice' systems composed in-plane moments. two show striking similarities in...

Although pinning of domain walls in ferromagnets is ubiquitous, the absence an appropriate characterization tool has limited ability to correlate physical and magnetic microstructures ferromagnetic films with specific mechanisms. Here, we show that a vortex, simplest possible structure soft ferromagnets, strongly correlated surface roughness, make quantitative comparison energy spatial range various thickness. The results demonstrate thickness fluctuations on lateral length scale vortex core...

Although nanolithographic techniques based on self-assembled block copolymer templates offer tremendous potential for fabrication of large-area nanostructure arrays, significant difficulties arise with both the lift-off and etch processes typically used pattern transfer. These become progressively more important in limit extreme feature sizes. The few that have been developed to avoid these issues are quite complex. Here, we demonstrate successful execution a process solvent annealed,...

In the nonlocal spin valve (NLSV) geometry, four-terminal electrical Hanle effect measurements have potential to provide a particularly simple determination of lifetime $({\ensuremath{\tau}}_{s})$ and diffusion length $({\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{\mathrm{N}})$ spins injected into nonmagnetic (N) materials. Recent papers, however, demonstrated that traditional models typically used fit such data an inaccurate measurement ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{s}$ in ferromagnet (FM)/N metal devices with low...

Positronium (Ps)-He scattering presents one of the few opportunities for both theory and experiment to tackle fundamental interactions Ps with ordinary matter. Below dissociation energy $6.8\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{eV}$, experimental theoretical work has struggled find agreement on strength this interaction as measured by momentum-transfer cross section $({\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{m})$. Here, we present utilizing Doppler broadening technique an age-momentum correlation apparatus. This...

The non-local spin valve (NLSV) is a useful device for studying transport at nanoscopic dimensions, with potential technological applications. Despite this appeal, background signals, unrelated to diffusion, often hinder the interpretation of signals in NLSVs and could compromise performance future devices. In paper, we comprehensively investigate these all-metallic fabricated from variety ferromagnetic (FM; <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><a:mrow><a:mi...

The nonlocal spin valve (NLSV) enables unambiguous study of transport, owing to its ability isolate pure currents. A key principle NLSV operation is that the ``spin signal'' invariant under application in-plane magnetic fields (above ferromagnetic contact saturation field). Yet, for certain ferromagnet/normal metal pairings in NLSVs, an unexpected field enhancement signal occurs, presenting a challenge has, thus far, been difficult resolve with existing models. By correlating extracted...

This article describes conventional orthodontic treatment of an adult patient leading to lower lip paresthesia. The paresthesia subsided when the cross elastics correct patient’s single molar crossbite were removed. It was determined with Digital Volumetric Tomography that inferior alveolar nerve located lingual second root and impinged upon tipping force elastic. Treatment resolve without further is discussed.

We measured the spin dependence of polarized neutrons reflected by a GaAs sample as it was optically pumped. This correlated with helicity circularly light and found to oscillate neutron wave vector transfer. The data provide definitive evidence that induced nuclear polarization in is not uniform depth. Quantitative analysis shows suppressed for tens nanometers near surface GaAs.

An interesting and novel effect has been observed in the form of a high-resistance state below superconducting transition temperature Al nanorings. The resistance exceeded 15 times value normal-state even though ring was superconducting. This counterintuitive can be explained terms charge imbalance caused by nonequilibrium accumulation quasiparticles near tilted normal-superconductor interfaces that occur naturally highly constricted nanostructures. Simulations using finite-element analysis...
