The precise genetic origins of the first Neolithic farming populations in Europe and Southwest Asia, as well processes timing their differentiation, remain largely unknown. Demogenomic modeling high-quality ancient genomes reveals that early farmers Anatolia emerged from a multiphase mixing Asian population with strongly bottlenecked western hunter-gatherer after last glacial maximum. Moreover, ancestors went through period extreme drift during westward range expansion, contributing highly...

Cattle dominate archaeozoological assemblages from the north-central Europe between sixth and fifth millennium BC are frequently considered as exclusively used for their meat. Dairy products may have played a greater role than previously believed. Selective pressure on lactase persistence mutation has been modelled to begun 6000 4000 years ago in central Europe. Abstract Background The northern European Neolithic is characterized by two major demographic events: immigration of early farmers from Anatolia at 7500 years before present, and their admixture with local western hunter-gatherers forming late farmers, around 6200 present. influence this event on variation in the immune-relevant human leukocyte antigen (HLA) region understudied. Results We analyzed genome-wide data 125 individuals seven archeological farmer sites located present-day Germany....

Studying the dynamic of Neolithic settlement on a local scale and its connection to climate variability is often difficult due missing on-site reconstructions from natural archives. Here we bring together archaeological data regional reconstruction precipitation-sensitive trees. Both archives hold information about dynamics hydroclimate spanning time first farming communities, so called Linearbandkeramik (LBK) in Bavaria, Germany. Precipitation-sensitive tree-ring series subfossil oak are...

ABSTRACT The northern European Neolithic is characterized by two major demographic events: immigration of early farmers (EF) from Anatolia (5500 BCE) and their admixture (from ∼4200 with western hunter-gatherers (WHG) forming late (LF). influence this event on variation in the immune-relevant human leukocyte antigen (HLA) region understudied. Here, we conducted population immunogenetic analyses 83 individuals six EF LF sites located present-day Germany. We observed significant shifts HLA...

<title>Abstract</title> Stable isotope signatures of domesticates found on archaeology sites provide information about past human behaviour, such as the evolution and adaptation husbandry strategies. A dynamic phase in cattle is during 6th millennium BCE, where first herders central Europe spread rapidly through diverse forested ecological niches, little known pasturing Here we investigate foddering practices using a multi-regional dataset stable values (δ13C δ18O; compound-specific isotopic...

In general, the LBK is considered a very assertive cultural phenomenon characterized by rapid expansion and subsequent high population density in agriculturally favorable areas. On one hand, for first time larger long-term populated places were created, on other strong colonial tendency obvious. A closer look at settlement areas upper Danube Bavaria Baden-Württemberg, however, shows an astonishing picture: Both of rural colonization ups downs further are different from region to region....

Abstract During the sixth millennium bce , first farmers of Central Europe rapidly expanded across a varied mosaic forested environments. Such environments would have offered important sources mineral-rich animal feed and shelter, prompting question: to what extent did early exploit forests raise their herds? Here, resolve this, we assembled multi-regional datasets, comprising bulk compound-specific stable isotope values from zooarchaeological remains pottery, conducted cross-correlation...
