Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains the main cause of death worldwide, and thus its prevention, early diagnosis treatment is paramount importance. Dyslipidemia represents a major ASCVD risk factor that should be adequately managed at different clinical settings. 2023 guidelines Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society focus on assessment risk, laboratory evaluation dyslipidemias, new emerging lipid-lowering drugs, as well lipid disorders in women, elderly patients with familial...

Small dense low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (sdLDL-C) molecules are more atherogenic compared with large buoyant ones. Phytosterols-enriched diets effective in decreasing total cholesterol (TC) and (LDL-C) concentrations hyperlipidemic children without significant adverse effects. Limited data on the impact of such a diet sdLDL-C levels is available adults while there no reports concerning children. The purpose this study to prospectively evaluate effect daily consumption 2 g plant...

Abstract Objective: In children and adolescents with cardiovascular risk factors, the assessment of subclinical target‐organ damage is paramount importance. This study investigated factors associated carotid intima‐media thickness (cIMT) in adolescents. Design Methods: A cross‐sectional was performed 448 apparently healthy recruited from schools (mean age 14 ± 2.2 years, 211 boys), which involved cIMT measurements (common artery) lipid profile, glucose, blood pressure (BP). Results: The...

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) carries a high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). As the population ages, age-related influence on clinical characteristics and outcomes becomes increasingly pertinent. This cross-sectional analysis from HELLAS-FH registry aims to explore potential differences in characteristics, treatment, ASCVD, goal achievement between those younger older than 65 years with FH. Results: A total 2273 adults heterozygous FH (51.4% males)...

Aims Three physical signs, namely tendon xanthomas, corneal arcus and xanthelasma, have been associated with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (heFH). The prevalence clinical significance of these signs are not well established among contemporary heFH individuals. This study explored the frequency as association prevalent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in Methods Data from Hellenic Familial Hypercholesterolemia Registry were applied for this analysis. diagnosis was...

Cat scratch disease is usually a benign, self-limiting condition. Neurological manifestations are uncommon and may consist of encephalopathy, seizures, coma. This report describes 2 cases transverse myelitis: 1 case in 46-year-old man who had lymph node biopsy serological testing results that were positive for Bartonella henselae 13-year-old adolescent boy B. henselae. These the only 3 myelitis associated with cat have been reported since causative organism was first reported.

Studies on the effects of sodium valproate (VPA) thyroid hormone balance in patients with epilepsy are conflicting. The aim this study was to prospectively evaluate changes profile children treated VPA monotherapy.Serum thyroxine, free triiodothyronine, and thyrotropin (TSH) levels were evaluated 30 epilepsy, before at 6, 12, 24 months monotherapy. All had normal function initiation treatment. Serum concentrations remained within therapeutic range (50-100 mg/L) during period study. Thyroxine...
