ABSTRACT Ants occur in a remarkable diversity of species, many which fulfill essential ecological roles and exhibit complex eusocial behaviors. Among their unique adaptations are specialized exocrine glands, such as the pre‐pharyngeal pharyngeal produce secretions crucial for physiology social cohesion. Despite importance, these glands poorly studied Paraponerinae Ponerinae species. This study examines morphology chemical composition workers Paraponera clavata (Paraponerinae) Pachycondyla...
Julolidines constitute a class of N ‐heterocycle compounds which have in common the 2,3,6,7‐tetrahydro‐1 H ,5 ‐benzo[1,2]quinolizine ring. Due mainly to its fluorescence properties, such structures shown potential application range scientific and technological areas attracted attention great variety research groups. For example, julolidines been used for detection ions volatile environmental biological samples, construction dye‐sensitized solar cells, photoconductive materials as fluorescent...
The catalyst p-sulfonic acid calix[4]arene was effectively used in the three-component Povarov reaction between aromatic anilines and two equivalents of 2,3-dihydrofuran to obtain furano[3,2-c]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines. These reactions proceeded efficiently using water as a green solvent nontoxic catalysts that could be reused; were metal-free only inexpensive easily available compounds. Together with simple workup procedure, these advantages make this protocol very efficient alternative...
In a recent paper, we reported the synthesis and photosynthesis-inhibitory activity of series analogues rubrolides. From quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) studies, found that most efficient compounds are those having higher ability to accept electrons. On basis findings, directed our effort synthesize new bearing strong electron-withdrawing group (nitro) in benzylidene ring evaluate their effects on photosynthesis. However, employed synthetic approach led novel...
To investigate the herbicidal potential of 2,5-diketopiperazines (2,5-DKPs), we applied a known protocol to produce series 2,5-DKPs through intramolecular N-alkylation Ugi adducts. However, method was not successful for cyclization adducts presenting aromatic rings with some substituents at ortho position. Results from DFT calculations showed that presence voluminous groups position benzene ring results in destabilization transition structure. Lower activation enthalpies SN2-type were...
Malaria, Chagas disease, and leishmaniasis are tropical diseases caused by protozoan parasites of the genera Plasmodium, Trypanosoma Leishmania, respectively. These constitute a major burden on public health in several regions worldwide, mainly affecting low-income populations economically poor countries. Severe side effects currently available drug treatments emergence resistant need to be addressed development novel candidates. Natural 2,5-Diketopiperazines (2,5-DKPs) N-heterocyclic...
A series of 32 novel potential bacterial biofilm inhibitor analogues rubrolides and their lactam derivatives were synthesized. The compounds prepared tested against Staphylococcus aureus epidermidis. In general, γ-alkylidene-γ-lactams are more active than the corresponding γ-alkylidene-γ-lactones, two effective in inhibiting planktonic growth (IC50 1.8 5.6 μg mL–1) natural rubrolides. Compounds showing little effect on assayed for ability to inhibit formation. As inhibitors, none new S....
COMPOUNDS ANALOGUES TO NOSTOCLIDES.Considering the broad spectrum of biological activity gamma-butyrolactone derivatives, we presented synthesis 3,4-dihalo-5-arylidenefuran-2(5H)-ones (17-21) and analogues (24-28) natural product nostoclide (7,8).Furanones 17-21 were synthesized from condensation aromatic aldehydes with lactones 14 15, that obtained mucobromic mucochloric acids.Lactone 15 was converted into intermediate 23 in 36% overall yield.Compound then transformed 24-28.Some compounds...
Aiming to improve their effectiveness, three modifications were introduced into the structure of natural phytotoxins nostoclides, leading synthesis novel 3-benzyl-4-isopropyl-5-(arylmethylene)furan-2(5H)-ones, 3-benzyl-5-(furan-2-ylmethylene)furan-2(5H)-ones, and 3,4dihalo-5-arylidenefuran-2(5H)-ones.All compounds characterized by IR, 1 H 13 C NMR, NOEDIF, COSY, HETCOR MS spectrometry.Increasing length molecule was found reduce ability interfere with ferricyanide reduction isolated...
CADIOLIDES.The increasing number of antibiotic resistant microorganisms requires the development new drugs. In this context, natural cadiolides are promising leads as they present potent antimicrobial activity and low cytotoxicity. In work we report synthesis 21 cadiolide analogues. The involved a Diels-Alder cycloaddition/ cycloreversion reaction between an oxazole different ynones, affording four intermediate butenolides (14a-d) in 61-81% yield. These intermediates were subjected to vinylogous...
The Z-E isomerization of γ-alkylidenebutenolide analogues to natural nostoclides and other butenolides was investigated using 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) data as well density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the ωB97x-D/6-31G(d,p) level, including solvent effects with polarizable continuum solvation approach. The experimental supported Z E γ-alkylidenebutenolides under acid catalysis.Newly prepared samples have predominantly...
