Dipteran or "true" flies occupy nearly every terrestrial habitat, and have evolved to feed upon a wide variety of sources including fruit, pollen, decomposing animal matter, even vertebrate blood. Here we analyze the molecular, genetic cellular basis odor response in tsetse fly Glossina morsitans, which feeds on blood humans their livestock, is vector deadly trypanosomes. The G. morsitans antenna contains specialized subtypes sensilla, some line sensory pit not found fruit Drosophila. We...

Circadian clocks regulate ∼24-h oscillations in gene expression, behavior, and physiology. While the genetic molecular mechanisms of circadian rhythms are well characterized, what remains poorly understood intracellular dynamics clock components how they affect rhythms. Here, we elucidate spatiotemporal organization core proteins genes Drosophila neurons. Using high-resolution imaging DNA-fluorescence situ hybridization techniques, demonstrate that (PERIOD CLOCK) organized into a few...

The endogenous cannabinoids (eCBs) influence the acute response to ethanol and development of tolerance, dependence relapse. Chronic alcohol exposure alters eCB levels Type 1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1) expression function in brain regions associated with addiction. CB1 inhibits GABA release, GABAergic dysregulation central nucleus amygdala (CeA) is critical transition dependence. We investigated possible disruptions signaling rat CeA transmission following intermittent exposure. In...

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) affect multiple physiological functions in the brain and their are modulated by regulatory proteins of Lynx family. Here, we report for first time a direct interaction protein LY6/PLAUR domain-containing 6 (Lypd6) with nAChRs human extracts, identifying Lypd6 as novel regulator nAChR function. Using cross-linking affinity purification from temporal cortical demonstrate that is synaptically enriched membrane-bound binds to subtypes brain....

The basolateral nucleus of the amygdala (BLA) is critical to pathophysiology anxiety-driven alcohol drinking and relapse. endogenous cannabinoid/type 1 cannabinoid receptor (eCB/CB1 ) system curbs BLA-driven anxiety stress responses via a retrograde negative feedback that inhibits neurotransmitter release, BLA CB1 activation reduces GABA release drives anxiogenesis. Additionally, decreased observed in abstinent alcoholic patients ethanol withdrawn rats. Here, we investigated potential...

Abstract Marijuana, which acts within the endocannabinoid (eCB) system as an agonist of cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R), exhibits addictive properties and has powerful actions on state arousal organism. The laterodorsal tegmental nucleus (LDT), a component reticular activating system, is involved in cortical activation important development drug addiction‐associated behaviours. Therefore, eCBs might exert behavioural effects by LDT; however, it unknown whether have neurons this nucleus....

Hunger drives animals to search for food, a behavior that is heavily dependent on the olfactory system. The neuronal mechanism by which hunger modulates behavioral response towards food odor, however, not well understood. In this study, using single-fly assay and single-unit recording, we have demonstrated starved flies exhibit enhanced attraction an attractive ethyl acetate, via increased sensitization of receptor neurons (ORNs). These results suggest caused due sensitivity in ORNs.
