Appropriate vertical movement is critical for the survival of flying animals. Although negative geotaxis (moving away from Earth) driven by gravity has been extensively studied, much less understood concerning a static regulatory mechanism inducing positive toward Earth).Using Drosophila melanogaster as model organism, we showed that geomagnetic field (GMF) induces and antagonizes gravitaxis. Remarkably, GMF acts sensory cue an appetite-driven associative learning behavior through...

Accurate identification of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is often difficult especially when an electrocardiogram (ECG) does not show typical elevation ST segment. The aim the present study was therefore to evaluate efficacy magnetocardiography (MCG) for diagnosis ACS in chest pain presenting without segment elevation. In retrospective 364 suspected were selected. Significant artery disease (CAD) defined as a stenosis > or =50% at least one 16 segments 3 major arteries and their...

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a functional neuroimaging technique that noninvasively detects the brain magnetic field from neuronal activations. Conventional MEG measures signals using superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs). SQUID-MEG requires cryogenic environment involving bulky non-magnetic Dewar flask and consumption of liquid helium, which restricts variability sensor array gap between cortical sources sensors. Recently, miniature optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs)...

Magnetocardiography (MCG) has been proposed as a noninvasive diagnostic tool to risk-stratify patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemia. The purpose of this study is find the MCG parameters that are sensitive enough detect non-ST-segment elevation (NSTEMI) patients.MCG data were recorded analyzed from 165 young controls (mean age = 27.2 +/- 9.0 years), 57 age-matched 55.9 10.5 years) 83 NSTEMI 59.7 11.1 years). recordings obtained using 64-channel system in magnetically shielded...

Matching the proton-magnetic-resonance frequency to of a periodic neural oscillation (e.g., alpha or gamma band waves) by magnetic resonance imaging techniques, enables direct visualization brain functional connectivity. Functional connectivity has been studied analyzing correlation between coherent oscillations in different areas brain. In electro- magneto-encephalography, source reconstruction source-space is very tricky due power leaking from among sources. For this reason, most studies...

We developed a magnetocardiogram (MCG) system measuring tangential field components using planar gradiometers. The SQUID insert has 64 gradiometers, of which 32 measure the x-component and other y-component, where chest surface is in x y plane. sensor double relaxation oscillation type with high flux-to-voltage transfers. Thus, room-temperature dc preamplifier modest input voltage noise could be used to detect output directly. pickup coils are first-order gradiometers baseline 4 cm, they...

Using the method of inverse problem, we designed a cancellation coil that prevents strong pulsed magnetic field inside magnetically shielded room (MSR) from magnetizing and inducing large-scale eddy currents around shielding materials. We implemented this with discrete current loops evaluated it numerically experimentally. Without coil, transient residual in middle MSR was greater than 0.1 μT for 63.5 ms, while reduced to less after 10.8 shortening decay time by 83.0%.

We achieved enhanced pre-polarization in a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-based microtesla nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiment by using dynamic polarization (DNP). The field is necessary to provide enough signal noise perform SQUID-based ultra-low-field (ULF) NMR/magnetic imaging (MRI) experiments. However, it quite tricky deal with the strong transient when operating SQUID magnetically shielded room (MSR); besides direct sensitive sensor, and its abrupt change...

Every day, we face situations that involve multi-tasking. How our brain utilizes cortical resources during multi-tasking is one of many interesting research topics. Engineering the admittance of external environments connected to superconducting qubits is essential, as increasing measurement speed introduces spontaneous emission loss qubits, known Purcell loss. Here, we report a broadband filter within small footprint, which effectively suppresses without losing fast speed. We characterize filter's frequency response at 4.3 K and also estimate suppression by finite-element-method simulations planar circuit layouts with proposed design. The fabricated...
