Abstract Hydroxyl radicals were generated radiolytically in N 2 O‐ or O/O (4:1)‐saturated aqueous solutions of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVAL) its low‐molecular‐weight model compound pentane‐2,4‐diol (PD). Using the pulse radiolysis technique, rate constant OH with PD and PVAL has been determined to be 2,3 · 10 9 dm 3 mol −1 s 1,5 8 , respectively. Upon attack two kinds are generated: (i) tertiary α‐hydroxyalkyl (ii) alkyl radicals. The former rapidly reduce tetranitromethane yielding stable...
Hydroxyl radicals (and 15% H-atoms) were generated radiolytically in N2O-containing aqueous solutions of protonated chitosan (Mw = 4.0 × 105 Da, degree deacetylation 90.5%, pH ≈ 3). The rate constant H-abstraction from by OH is k 6.4 108 dm3 mol−1 s−1, as measured pulse radiolysis using thymine competitor. With SCN− competitor the apparent found to be too high, because a condensation around positively charged macromolecule. radiation-chemical yields chain scission are G 3.4 10−7 mol J−1...
Nanogels of poly(acrylic acid) have been synthesized using a new method, based on intramolecular cross-linking linear macromolecules in aqueous solution, induced by short (a few microseconds) pulses fast electrons. Simultaneous generation number carbon-centered radicals along the polymer chain results predominantly recombination, with only minor contribution intermolecular cross-link formation and scission. This method allows synthesis nanogels pure system consisting water, absence monomers,...
The evaluation of a possible application functional shrinkable materials in thermally conductive electrical insulation elements was investigated. effectiveness an electron beam and gamma radiation on the crosslinking selected high density polyethylene grade analyzed, both qualitatively quantitatively. crosslinked polymer composites filled with ceramic particles were successfully fabricated tested. On basis performed investigation, it concluded that filler, namely boron nitride powder, is...
