Objective This study aimed to explore effects of adjunctive N -acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment on inflammatory and neurogenesis markers in unipolar depression. Methods We embarked a 12-week clinical trial NAC (2000 mg/day compared with placebo) as an for A follow-up visit was conducted 4 weeks following the completion treatment. collected serum samples at baseline end phase (week 12) determine changes interleukin-6 (IL6), C-reactive protein (CRP) brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)...

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition with progressive social and cognitive function disturbances. Most patients' treatments are based on polypharmacy, but no biological basis little known of the drugs' interactions. The aim this study was to analyze effects lithium, valproate, quetiapine, lamotrigine, interactions between them, markers inflammation, bioenergetics, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress in neuron-like cells microglial cells.Neuron-like lipopolysaccharide-stimulated...

Abstract Objective This study aimed to explore effects of adjunctive treatment with N -acetyl cysteine (NAC) on markers inflammation and neurogenesis in bipolar depression. Methods is a secondary analysis placebo-controlled randomised trial. Serum samples were collected at baseline, week 8, 32 the open-label maintenance phases clinical trial determine changes interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), C-reactive protein (CRP) brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)...

The amyloid precursor protein (APP) generates a number of peptides when processed through different cleavage mechanisms, including the beta peptide that is implicated in development Alzheimer's disease. It well established APP via its cleaved regulates aspects neuronal metabolism. Emerging evidence suggests amyloidogenic processing can lead to altered systemic metabolism, similar observed metabolic disease states. In present study, we investigated effect deficiency on obesity-induced...

This study aimed to explore effects of adjunctive minocycline treatment on inflammatory and neurogenesis markers in major depressive disorder (MDD). Serum samples were collected from a randomised, placebo-controlled 12-week clinical trial (200 mg/day, added as usual) for adults (n = 71) experiencing MDD determine changes interleukin-6 (IL-6), lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Abstract Background Despite well-known effects of diet on gut microbiota diversity, relatively little is known about how maternal quality shapes the longitudinal maturation in offspring. To investigate, we fed female rats standard chow (Chow) or a western-style, high-choice cafeteria (Caf) prior to and during mating, gestation lactation. At weaning (3 weeks), male offspring were either maintained their mother’s (ChowChow, CafCaf groups) switched other (ChowCaf, CafChow). Fecal microbial...

Abstract Gut bacteria from the genus Prevotella are found in high abundance faeces of non-industrialised communities but low industrialised, Westernised communities. copri is one principal species within human gut. As it has been associated with developmental health and disease states, we sought to (i) develop a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) rapidly determine P. (ii) investigate its large group Australian pregnant mothers. The Barwon Infant Study pre-birth cohort study ( n =...

Maternal obesity increases the risk of health complications in children, highlighting need for effective interventions. A rat model maternal to examine whether a diet switch intervention could reverse adverse effects an unhealthy postweaning is used.

Abstract Pregnancy can alter gut microbiota composition, but how an obesogenic diet impacts maternal microbiota, and the extent to which this influences offspring microbiome be obscured by confounding factors. This study examined changes in composition across pre-pregnancy, gestation lactation rat dams fed either a high-fat, high-sugar Cafeteria (Caf) or Chow. Microbiome development was assessed their weaned onto chow. Caf consumption during pregnancy increased weight gain adiposity,...
