Abstract Long‐term mechanical circulatory assistance opened new problems in ventricular assist device—patient interaction, especially relation to autonomic controls. Modeling studies, based on adequate models, could be a feasible approach of investigation. The aim this work is the exploitation hybrid (hydronumerical) cardiovascular simulator reproduce and analyze vivo experimental data acquired during continuous flow left assistance. embeds three submodels: computational submodel, baroreflex...

Abstract The paper presents a hybrid (hydro-numerical) circulatory model built to be used as complementary tool for clinical purposes. It was developed at the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering - Polish Academy Sciences (Poland) in co-operation with Clinical Physiology National Council Research (Italy). Main advantages are: 1) high accuracy repeatability parameters setting, characteristic numerical solutions, 2) maximum flexibility achieved by implementing largest...

Mock circulatory systems are used to test mechanical assist devices and for training research purposes; when compared numerical models, however, they not flexible enough rather expensive. The concept of merging physical resulting in a hybrid one, is applied here represent the input impedance systemic arterial tree, by conventional windkessel model built out an electro-hydraulic (E-H) simulator added hydraulic section. This inserted into open loop circuit, completed another representing...

Background Due to economic and ethical problems, virtual organs may appear more convenient than experiments on animals or limited investigations patients. In particular, a respiratory system (VRS) be useful for tasks such as respirators support methods testing, education, staff (medical technical) training, (initial) testing of scientific hypotheses. The aim of this work is to study pediatric pneumatic ventricle (PVAD) performance, versus VAD rate (VADR) and native heart (HR) ratio Rr (VADR/HR). uses a hybrid model the cardiovascular system (HCS). HCS consists computational part (a lumped parameter including left right ventricles, systemic pulmonary arterial venous circulation) interfaced physical part. This permits connection (15 mL PVAD). Physical models of the circulation are used for research, training and testing implantable active passive circulatory prosthetic assistance devices. However, in comparison with numerical models, they rigid expensive. To overcome these limitations, we have developed a model based on merging lumped parameter physical into one (producing therefore hybrid). The is limited to barest essentials and, this application, test principle, it windkessel representing systemic arterial tree. parameters was...
