One new cicada genus Versicolora gen. nov. and two species, V. ziyongi sp. from China bellula Vietnam, are described. The is placed in the tribe Leptopsaltriini of subfamily Cicadinae. relationship this to other related taxa discussed. camouflages itself on bark host-plants gradually changes its body colour when captured. This colour-changing behaviour recorded for first time Cicadoidea, which provides innovative information ecomorphological study remarkable species cicadas that potentially...
Three new species of Cerambycidae, Callichromatini from Vietnam are described: Aphrodisium lingafelteri sp. nov., Mimochelidonium vietnamicum and Polyzonus (Striatopolyzonus) tonkinensis nov. The genus Bentanachs & Drouin is recorded as for the fauna Vietnam.
Recent collecting in northern Vietnam yielded specimens of several new leafhopper species, two which represent monotypic genera, and additional species not previously recorded from Vietnam. The genera (Hochiminus n. gen. Pseudocestius gen.) 15 (Abrus digitatus sp., Aeternus ninhbinhensis Drabescoides bispinosa Tenompoella vietnamensis Uzelina (Uzelina) sp. n., Hochiminhus tamdaoensis cucphuongensis Phlogothamnus pseudorugosus Scaphoidella albopunctata Bundera onukiiformis Carinata arcuata...
DNA holds great potential for species identification and efforts to create a database of all animals plants currently contains >7.5 million sequences representing ~300,000 species. This promise universally applicable tool suggests that morphologically based tools taxonomists will soon not have utility. Here we demonstrate DNA-based is reliable without the contributions taxonomic experts. We use ambrosia beetles (Xyleborini), which are known diversity as well global invasions damage, test...
Flower visitation by orthopterans, particularly taxa from Southeast Asia, was only recently brought to light in a report on the diversity and network of 41 orthopteran Asia visiting flowers 35 plant taxa. Continued efforts document flower orthopterans have led 104 new incidences including 17 A total 247 58 flower-visiting 71 genera are reported here. In accordance with previous studies, subfamily Phaneropterinae remains most prominent is very likely undisputedly floriphilic. Using dataset...
A new species of the genus Multinervis Li & Li, 2013, phongdienensis sp. nov. , is described from two locations in Central Vietnam, Thưa Thien-Hue Province: Bach Ma National Park and Phong Dien District. It represents a second for fauna where type species, M. guangxiensis has also previously been recorded Northern Vietnam. Illustrations, differential diagnosis to distinguish distribution map are provided. characterized by absence forewing crossveins claval region, reduced subgenital...
Four new species of black flies are described, and three others reported as newly recorded, based on adults reared from pupae, pupae larvae collected in near Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc Province, Vietnam. New include Simulium (Gomphostilbia) hongthaii sp. nov., S. (G.) tamdaoense nov. (both placed the asakoae species-group), (Simulium) taythienense (S.) xuandai (the two latter striatum species-group). Newly recorded brinchangense Takaoka, Sofian-Azirun & Hashim, (Nevermannia)...
Worldwide pollinator declines have dramatically increased our need to survey and monitor distributions abundances. The giant honey bee, Apis laboriosa, is one of the important pollinators at higher altitudes Himalayas. This species has a restricted distribution along Himalayas neighbouring mountain ranges Asia. Previous assessments its distribution, published more than 20 years ago, were based on museum specimens. Since then, 244 additional localities been revealed through field trips by...
Abstract Water strider (Gerridae) morphology and behavior have become the focus of interdisciplinary research in biological diversification bio-inspired technology. However, diversity behaviors large-sized Gerridae not been intensely studied. Here, we provide locomotory legs’ micro-morphology large South-East Asian water strider, Ptilomera tigrina . Using high-speed videography experiments natural habitats, as well scanning electron microscopy midlegs, determined that (1) P. individuals...
Piper lolot is a species of herb used as popular food in Vietnam. Furthermore, the has been Vietnamese traditional medicine to treat many diseases.Chemical constituents essential oil from leaves were determined using GC/MS analysis. The anti-gout and anti-diabetic activities through inhibitory assays against xanthine oxidase, α-glucosidase α-amylase enzymes. In addition, molecular docking simulations elucidate mechanism between main compounds enzymes. The dominant oils β-caryophyllene...
Sixteen species of Issidae (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha) were recorded in a single day collecting Dong Son-Ky Thuong Nature Reserve, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, which checklist is provided. Among them, eight are new to science and described different tribes subtribes: the Hemisphaeriini Hemisphaeriina: Gergithoides olivaceus sp. nov., Hemisphaerius bresseeli nov. This study presents all known Vietnamese Orthoptera (Saltatoria) from 1887 to 2013 as a summarized checklist that includes currently valid names and synonyms for the fauna with their type localities. The sources are compared reliable references species file online. A total of 656 12 families were estimated occur in Vietnam through present.
Exotic diseases and pests of trees have caused continental-scale disturbances in forest ecosystems industries, their invasions are considered largely unpredictable. We tested the concept preinvasion assessment not yet invasive organisms, which enables empirical risk potential invasion impact. Our example assesses fungi associated with Old World bark ambrosia beetles to impact North American trees. selected 55 Asian European scolytine beetle species using host use, economic, regulatory...
The redbay ambrosia beetle, Xyleborus glabratus Eichhoff, is native to Southeast Asia, where it specializes on Lauraceae trees. It forms a symbiosis with the fungus Raffaelea lauricola T.C. Harr., Fraedrich & Aghayeva, which can act as pathogen in living host beetle and were recently introduced into United States, they have killed millions of trees threaten avocado industry. These populations limited genetic variation. In range, fungi are genetically variable, but variability beetles...
