Pulmonary capillariasis is a zoonotic disease caused by the cosmopolitan nematode Capillaria aerophila, which circulates among wild carnivorous and omnivorous mammals. Only 11 cases have been documented to date. We describe cryptic case of pulmonary in Serbian woman that resembled bronchial carcinoma.
Background and Clinical Significance: Since the prevalence of fungal lung infections is increasing, certain agents, such as Cladosporium spp., have emerged unexpected causes. spp. fungi are ubiquitous in environments soil, fruits, wine corks; they a part normal human skin flora; known respiratory allergens. Case Presentation: A patient with history post-COVID-19 syndrome AIDS presented pathology indicative an invasive infection. The initial histopathological examination revealed numerous...
The respiratory capillariid nematode Eucoleus aerophilus (Creplin, 1839) infects wild and domestic carnivores and, occasionally, humans. Thus far, a dozen of human infections have been published in the literature but it cannot be ruled out that lung capillariosis is underdiagnosed medicine. Also, apparent spreading E. different geographic areas spurs new studies on epidemiology this nematode. After recognition first case infection Serbia, there significant merit enhancing knowledge...
Molecular studies of European classical rabies viruses (RABV) have revealed a number geographically clustered lineages. To study the diversity Balkan RABV, partial nucleoprotein (N) gene sequences were analysed from unique panel isolates (n = 210), collected various hosts between 1972 and 2006. All grouped within European/Middle East Lineage, with majority most closely related to strains. A RABV Bosnia & Herzegovina Montenegro, 1986 2006, West strains, believed be responsible for epizootic...
Angiostrongylus vasorum is a cardiopulmonary canine nematode, potentially fatal to its host. In the last decade, there has been an increasing number of autochthonous cases in areas previously considered non-endemic. However, information about parasite's occurrence and distribution among Central Eastern (Southeastern) European countries are scarce. This paper reports first recorded case A. infection hunting dog from Serbia. In March 2013, female was presented veterinary clinic Novi Sad,...
Neospora caninum, the causative agent of neosporosis, is a protozoan parasite responsible for high rate abortion in cattle worldwide. In dogs, consequences infection vary from severe neuromuscular disorders to asymptomatic and shedding environmentally resistant oocysts. this study, we determined occurrence N. caninum antibodies dairy dogs Vojvodina (Northern Province Serbia) possible risk factors. were found 15.4% (55/356, CI 95%:12.0–19.6) cows 17.2% (17/99, 95%: 10.8–26.2) dogs. Cows...
Consumption of undercooked or raw pork is considered a significant risk factor for human infection with Toxoplasma gondii. In this study, we investigated the genetic structure 18 T. gondii strains obtained from slaughter pigs Northern Serbia (mainly Vojvodina). The examined samples originated eight large commercial farms, six backyard and four free-range Mangalica pigs, all found to be positive either viable DNA. Genotyping was attempted both pig tissues mouse brains bio-assays using...
Aim: To characterize baby hamster kidney fibroblast (BHK 21/C13) cells and test the effects of antibodies against podoplanin disodium cromolyn on BHK 21/C13 cell line-derived tumors grown chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM). Material Methods: cell-derived fibrosarcomas developed in hamsters were implanted CAM treated with anti-podoplanin cromolyn. immunophenotype was assessed. Results: Fibrosarcoma positive for vimentin, CD117, smooth muscle actin, vascular endothelial growth factor...
The aim of this study is to update the data on prevalence Dirofilaria immitis (D. immitis) and Dirofi laria repens repens) infections inpet dogs, report a preliminary result Angiostrongylus vasorum (A. vasorum) in hunting assess presence ofconcurrent infection with D. A. pet dogs Novi Sad. Th e methods used estimate dirofilaria were modifi ed Knott test detection antigen D.immitis. was determined using Baermannfecal technique antigen. Concurrent assessed only by antigens each parasite....
Summary Toxoplasma gondii is considered one of the most successful parasites humans and animals. The ingestion viable cysts through consumption undercooked pork recognized as a significant route human infection with T. gondii. aim this study was to investigate presence parasite in tissues free-range pigs from Zasavica Special Nature Reserve. All were Mangulica breed, raised traditional way. serological screening performed using modified agglutination test (MAT). isolation attempted by...
Toxocariasis is a zoonosis which in Serbia characterized with very high infection rate of dogs and excessive contamination the soil eggs Toxocara canis, agent disease. Toxocara-induced infections have recent years been established few hundreds children, but toxocariasis has rather rarely diagnosed adults. We reported (visceral larva migrans) an adult, manifested by migratory pulmonary infiltrates positive serological test finding to Toxocara.Human rare disease adults, therefore it should be...
Abstract Blastocystis is a common protist colonizing the gastrointestinal tract of humans and various animals. The first subtyping isolates in pigs Serbia revealed unusual avian‐specific subtype ST6 humans. In total, 48 pig faecal specimens collected on seven farms 50 human positive to by microscopic examination were selected for study. Eleven randomly PCR‐positive samples 10 from patients (with complaints) subjected SSU rDNA sequencing. Three subtypes identified (ST3, ST5 ST6) phylogenetic...
Heartworm disease (HWD) is a clinically important parasitic of the cardiovascular system in dogs, and caused by Dirofilaria immitis (D. immitis), which resides pulmonary arteries. Infected domestic wild canids as hosts, mosquitoes intermediate are main reservoirs D. immitis. Because does not reach complete development humans, HWD considered to be with zoonotic potential. In addition its veterinary relevance potential, distributed worldwide, thus, multidisciplinary approach necessary control...
Introduction. Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a group of idiopathic disorders associated with single or multiple organ system dysfunction. HES must be distinguished from reactive eosinophilia in parasitic infections, allergic diseases, and especially hematological diseases clonal origin. Reactive due to infectious diseases. Tissue helminth toxocariasis, cause severe long-standing hypereosinophilia. Despite specific therapy, may persist for over year after diagnosis, decreases slowly....
The aim of this study was to determine the concentration TNF-alpha (TNF-α) in dogs naturally infected with Dirofilaria immitis (D. immitis) and assess whether there are any changes TNF-α their dependence during therapy for heartworm disease (HWD). For study, 14 client-owned HWD were selected. Clinical parasitological examinations (modified Knott test circulating microfilariae SNAP Test IDEXX D. antigen) had been used diagnosing HWD. All treated an alternative (oral doxycycline 10 mg/kg b.w.,...
The “beautiful viviparous fly”, Wohlfahrtia magnifica, may have a magnificent appearance due to its striking morphology; however, it is potentially deadly agent of obligate traumatic myiasis in humans and animals, with serious impact on welfare economics. fly found across the Palearctic realm, including Western Balkan region, reports from former Yugoslavian countries first half 20th century. In this paper, recent case wohlfahrtiosis recorded Northern Serbia evidenced using morphological...
